You're right. I've seen the poor cows frantic. Pacing back and forth wondering where they will get their next blade of grass.

Go blow epo.

you just brought up why it matters. They heard hundreds in a small space and give them feed in one spot. they fight to get in there first, they fight for space. they dont just stand there like dummies. It causes stresses that toughen the muscles.

Consumer Reports:

http://www.tonysmarket.com/foodhealth/freerange.cfm#cu

Free range (or free roaming) is a general claim that implies that a meat or poultry product, including eggs, comes from an animal that was raised in the open air or was free to roam. Its use on beef is unregulated and there is no standard definition of this term. Free range is regulated by the USDA for use on poultry only (not eggs) and USDA requires that birds have been given access to the outdoors but for an undetermined period each day.

Nothing about additives or hormones.

you are seriously being like bulldog cakes right now. The USDA WOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING IF IT DOESNT MAKE THE PRODUCT UNHEALTHY. We are talking about the difference in the meat for the 2 methods, not the fuckin laws against or for free ranging the animal.

You are arguing something that has no bearing on anything. its what the company chooses to do with the cows, not the government.

Stop making yourself look like BDC. argue the point

Peter Abraham is not free range.

Snoogans
01-26-2010, 12:06 PM
free range is a way to raise your cattle. being it has no effect on the health of the cattle, the USDA doesnt regulate it, meaning you can do it 24/7. they dont let you free range chickens that much, cause they can get diseases. thats the reason they dont have regulations. It has nothing to do with the taste of the food, therefore your point is wrong.

The companies free range the meat cause they know it will make it softer. Its still the same cows and same packaging, so the USDA just doesnt care if you do or dont is all. It doesnt mean it doesnt do anything. Learn to comprehend shit

Snoogans

Again.

cause hormones make the muscles tougher, therefore not as soft. Hormones are given to penned animals to make them grow faster. thats why they ARENT AS SOFT.

you can give them to free range animals but most doesnt cause its pointless. they are free range so they can eat wild grass

Are there people seriously arguing that the conditions cows live in won't change the taste of the meat?

Also, if I remember correctly, when it comes to poultry, free range means shit. You want cage free. Free range just means the farmer lets the poultry out of the cage sometimes, but there's no set time it has to be let out.

Dinner tonight was Strip Steaks, garlic fries from Trader Joe's, and some noodles.

Noodles were OK. Garlic fries were decent for oven baked fries, but next time I'll put on like half the garlic sauce.

Liz's steak was cooked just right. Mine was on a cooler side of the grill so it had to cook a little more.

no regulations doesnt mean its a marketing term. it just means they dont have laws on the books for free ranging the animal as opposed to keeping it in a pen. i don't know why we're bothering. he eats kfc and taco bell.

Is that at the combination kfc and taco bell?

free range is a way to raise your cattle. being it has no effect on the health of the cattle, the USDA doesnt regulate it, meaning you can do it 24/7. they dont let you free range chickens that much, cause they can get diseases. thats the reason they dont have regulations.

I don't think anyone's arguing that true, free-range beef wouldn't be better... but rather that since it's not regulated, it sounds like anyone can slap the "Free Range" label on their meat, so unless you know the source... the term is meaningless when applied to beef.

That's why it's still just a "marketing term", and not yet an official grade of meat. There's no one verifying exactly how the cattle was raised, or setting any standard that must be met.

well, tenbatz and hottub both were arguing that free range isnt better. And he continued to tell me it was just for marketing after i showed him how they were indeed free range grass fed no hormones cows. And still they acted like its the same shit

Actually, Ozzie managed to put across the point I was trying to make.

I'd trust a free range steak from Wegman's more than I would a free range steak from Shop Rite.

its about the company. Im sure wegmans has the exact same brand. its not shoprite butcher steaks. it comes from the australian company to many stores

and hate on shoprite all you want, butt the one by me is a butcher all the same. probably the same shit as wegmens. I watch the guy through a window cut the steaks off of the quarter cow just like how i do at the regular butcher shop i go to. There is no problem with them.

and no, your point was never about the stores. your point was that free range is just a marketing term and has no effect on the meat. Now you have changed your point AGAIN just to try to be right. Just accept you arent, and leave me alone
