Received an invite to a friends house warming and have been asked to bring something for dinner. They're making the main and the guests are to bring "something small to share". I think there's going to be a total of 8 or so in attendance.
Would like to avoid the generic potato salad, 7 layer dip, etc. Suggestions?

Taco Dip. Real big batch.
Or Spinach Dip in one of those big Pumpernickel Bread bowls.

Thank you KatPw for a reasonable suggestion! Much appreciated and a good idea :)
As for the rest of you.........
five or six orders of large fries should do the trick
get extra ketchup.

I'll give it some thought. Problem is despite being a decent cook I can't bake worth shit and would like to bring something I made.

In all seriousness, Give this a shot. It's always a hit at Christmas and Panettones should be easy to pick up cheap after the holidays. Plus it's easy as hell to make.

No problem buddy!
Exactly! Usually they are 8 bucks or more.. right after new years they're practically giving them away.
Also you may want to make the custard and amaretto sauce ahead of time and just put it together there and stick it in the oven right before dessert. Nice and warm out of the oven..Mmmmm.

Problem with that is amaretto is one of the few liqueurs I enjoy so I'll probably like the sauce. Since I have the will power of hungry child in front of a bare tit it wouldn't last it I made the sauce ahead of time.

Buy a 5 qt. pot.
Prepare a savory beef stew in said pot.
Bring the stew, tell them they can keep the pot. They'll think of you each time they use it.

Even better - a nice Woodwick candle. This gift will last a few more days than food.
