A woman recently told me I reminded her of Richie Cunningham, meaning I was a "nice guy". Now I'm 30 years old. Handsome, cute, sexy, these are all good. But Richie Cunningham? Ladies, what's the deal with the "nice guy" tag, and is it the kiss of death?
Cake or Death? Uh, I'll have the cake please.

Hang in there guys
nice guys finish last indeed
. This is not true, nice guys start off in last, but in the end they are the ones that emerge on the top. Trust me I know this from experience...

i agree with doogie...but to finish on top you have to be agressive while maintaining your nice guy-ness. those that finish last are those that didnt try to win

As an experiment, try not being so nice, then see where it gets you. If it works, go with it. If it doesn't, prepare for being last place.

When I was around 15, my friend and i went to a girls house, she was there with a friend...
The girls were sexually active and one of them went into the bathroom...
I went into the bathroom and instead of just going ahead and start making out with her(which is what she wanted) I had to be a NICE GUY and ASK HER if she wanted to make out...
She practically laughed in my face and walked out...
Man was I dissapointed :(

I think a lot of guys like to think they're nice guys, and try to use that to explain their loneliness, and I think I fell victim to this way of thinking some time ago.
Now I think I realize that my ex was looking for a "nice guy," and I just didn't fit the bill. Not that I'm horrible, but I'm just not "good enough" right now.
So I'm not going to say, "oh I can't get girls because I'm a nice guy" Rather, I'm trying to understand and deal with my flaws, and if they are things that are so buried in my psyche that I can't fix them, and have to be alone for the rest of my living days, than that's something I have to deal with too, however, I refuse to blame it on the female population of the world for not having the "vision" to understand what a "good guy" I am.
If one guy can go into a club, talk to, pick up, go home with, maybe have a relationship with, and maybe even marry a woman he meets there, then he was the right kind of person, and I wasn't. It's that simple.
So, without trying to offend anyone, I think this whole argument comes from over-inflated male egos, and the beleif that we're better than we really are. I can accept that something is wrong with me, hopefully I'll discover what that is. but if I don't and I have to be alone, then so be it. I just wasn't good enough....

I've seen that label applied to myself on more than one occasion.
The addage is true, though. However, last should be seen as "later on".
They go for the "bad boy" when they're younger and when they marry, it is usually to a more stable guy with a good job.

JerryTaker, helluva post! Listen, hang in there. Sounds like you're turning a corner in your life. Seems like you got your wits about you, which is cool, but don't think so disparagingly. Take your time, it will all come to you - be patient and do the right thing (not a spike lee reference)

No, it's that most nice guys are afraid to take a few chances. They equate nice with shy. They're not the same thing.

Mr. Tom Poo reeked of awesomeness on that post. That's something to understand. Be yourselves, and never pass up on a "good" thing. Hell, you can fail now and then, but it's always worth it in the end.

Ive been waiting to respond to something like this.
For all of those who are labeled as nice guys now, there is hope and you control your own destiny.
Its good to do deeds for people, especially women. But when people see that all the time, they'll think you dont take risks, and also assume you lack confidence.
In the past I've been nice, and guess what, I've been stepped on and taken advantage of. Not just in dating but in other things.
Now adays, I stand up for myself and what i believe in. I dont let people take advantage of me and I wont let anyone assume i have no confidence.
Unfortunatley in the dating department I'm still not having success, but if I pursue a girl and if she's trying to do the "lets just be friends" bullshit, I just honestly tell her how she's acting and simple cut off further contact from them. I know its kinda extreme, but at least I'm making my voice heard.
