View Full Version : Do you have an "emergency bag"?

I have two different bags, one in my car and one at work, where I have an "emergency" change of clothes, should something happen. I wonder if anyone has such a thing. I have sneakers, socks, underwear, pants, T shirt and dress shirt. I also have soap, travel toothbrush and toothpaste and a razor and a travel size deodorant and like a mini leatherman tool as well.
Its nothing big, a "just in case" bag, like if I get soaked or have a flat on the way to someplace etc. Anyone else have a similar plan B?

my dad and i have an emergency bag for if we are traveling suddenly (two days worth of clothing and toilet shit, plus 200 bucks). We also have the "END OF THE WORLD" bag, containing: money, birth certificates, passports, and a few other things.

Shouldn't there be guns, ammo, and pork and beans in that End of the World bag?

After 9/11 and then the second head smacking moment, the blackout in 2004, I always carry water and food in my bag in case I have to play Snake Plisken again.

Good idea about the water and maybe some granola bars or something that lasts a while! I know this can go to an extreme, with weapons etc, but I have it in case my regular clothes get destroyed. It happens. How many times have you spilled coffee on your shirt or light colored pants or gotten caught in a storm or splashed? I remember when I worked in Brooklyn and Im walking down Flatbush Ave in the winter and this bus goes through a puddle and I get totally soaked in disgustingly filthy icy water and I make it to work and Im sitting there shivering and stained. After that, I started carrying in a few items here and there and slowly assembled my work emergency bag.

No, but I do carry a can of whoop ass.
In an emergency I open it up and take
emergency bags from everyone around me.

Yup. I have two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls.

Only in the winter and usually only when I am heading out of town on a road trip. When you are heading out of the city limits and you pass a sign that says "Winter survival gear strongly suggested" you know you will be driving thru some pretty deserted areas.
You need to have stuff in case you go off the road and have to wait in the cold for a couple of hours until help arrives.

the guns are in their own cases, as well as the shells, but the food we just grab from the fridge and cabinets. frankly, the emergency bags don't work for me if i'm not at home.

It sounds like you've run through this scenario already. What exactly would have to happen to send you to the mattresses?

anything truly valuable is in a vault - money, jewelry, bonds.
if NYC is hit with anything we are hauling ass to Westchester airport and get meet with our cousins and fly out on their plane. we've had the plan since sept. 2001.

I admire your out of the box thinking.....however. What if light aviation is shut down (i.e. post 9/11) or of greater concern the load capacity of their plane.

I hope you have the keys to the plane, cuz otherwise consider yourself the victim of a righteous ditching.

we also have a house in the Catskills. depending on what happens, we are driving north.

they are scum bags ... i should go to their home, murder and rob them, and then get to the plane.
I don't have an emergency bag but I carry my guitar in a gunny sack.

In my old pickup, I had a truck box, and in the truck box I had a rubbermaid roughneck tote that had EVERYTHING in it - water, rope, flashlight, change of clothes, heavy duty garbage bags, umbrella, jumper cables, tools, etc.
As I started getting smaller cars, my need for having everything grew less and less.
I don't carry a change of clothes, but I do have a jacket, mag-lite, some tools, water, and some cash.

I work for the Red Cross & have been trained to give their seminar on disaster preparedness where I tell people about having an emergency get away kit with all of their important information, important phone numbers, change of clothes, cash, water, first aid supplies, etc.
I have none of these things prepared myself.
