I love Reuben sandwiches: corned beef, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing on rye.

thumb slightly up... meat needs to be hot or warm
hot pastrami is best, with melted finlandia swiss... on rye but not too much meat. a third of whats in that pic suffices
but i'm not picky

BTW, Reubens may be the best thing mikeyboy's people have ever created.

Yeah, and they are pretty average anyway. They hit the spot now and again, but the legacy of the gimmick seem to carry that place.
There is a Pittsburgh bar in San Fran called Giordano Bros. that imitates them but was actually better to my think.

Last reuben I had, I told Liz she could have some but I knew she wouldn't eat it because she was avoiding nitrates.
I went out to shovel snow, with 2/3 of my sandwich in the fridge.
I returned to find an empty box still in fridge.

I'm glad to see that good taste is reigning here, and just about everyone recognizes the glory that is a Reuben.
The only way you could possibly not like a Reuben is if you're an anti-Semite.
If you hate Reubens, you love Hitler.

thousand island dressing is crap. sauerkraut makes bread gummy and is better on the side (like coleslaw).
corned beef on toasted rye, with tomato and brown mustard is the way to go.

I like mine best when it's open-faced & you have to eat it with a knife and fork ... and then you have leftovers for the next day and a half.
Corned beef, swiss, sauerkraut and thousand island on rye with spicy or whole-grain mustard on the side.
Especially good if it's from your favorite diner, although the one at Harold's is gluttony bordering on overkill. (You end up eating like a king for almost a week, there's so much meat.)

Love Reuben sandwiches. Not too much corned beef, just enough sauerkraut to give it that bite, and a thin smear of a good brown mustard. I prefer the marble rye, too. Needs to be lightly toasted.

Totally agree on the toasted bread! Sometimes it's got kind of a buttery hint to it, like they maybe grilled it with a bit of butter, but it makes the difference between a great sandwich and a mess.

ruebens are good but patty melts are better
There was one year when I was in college when I easily ate 200 patty melts. There was a place, and they were great.
Two differrent sandwiches, though. In the same food genus and species, but different.
Genus: Diner Food
Species: specialties/other
Include: Reuben, Patty melt, Monte Cristo, French Dip.

I don't care for an open faced "sandwich".
If you can't pick it up and eat it with your hands comfortably it's not a sandwich.
