View Full Version : Fez being carded

I can't call in, but I know the reasons why Fez was carded:
Knowing Fez, he was probably in a chain restaurant getting his drinks. Every single chain restaurant makes you card no matter what the age, and also has secret shoppers coming in to get booze. If you serve w/o carding and get hit by the secret shopper, you'll get fired automatically.
It happened to someone I worked with - the secret shopper was about Fez's age and our bartender on duty didn't card - and she was fired.
As for the expiration thing - maybe she was a new server or she was flustered, but a lot of fake IDs come from expired licenses.

I've never been carded at a chain restaurant and I look like a 12 year old anime character with tits.

I very rarely get carded, except to actually enter a place that has a line.

Well, if you wanted a new mod quote, there you go.
That said, sometimes mgmt knows a secret shopper is coming in and gives the staff a warning ahead of time. That's why it flexes from time to time. They say in the rules you MUST card because they don't want to be liable, but it's not adhered to unless it's a hard press from management.

for what it's worth, I haven't been carded in a long while either, but it does happen from time to time at chain restaurants. Last time it happened was at a Longhorn.

I was carded at Target when I bought the new Halo game for my brother. I asked the clerk if he was serious and he said that if they don't card people when prompted, they can get fired - regardless of how obvious the validity of the customer's age.

I saw that too with someone buying COD:MW2. Doing that is just to avoid bad PR and also a guideline of the video games rating board. You can thank Jack Thompson for that one.

Gamestop also cards.
Something I just remembered - Goat, did they just look at your license or did they scan the bar code?
Because if they're just doing a look, I don't have an issue with that.
If they're scanning, THEN I have an issue.

When I saw the guy getting carded for COD:MW2 at target, I kinda remember the guy at target scanning the license, but it was out of the corner of my eye - maybe he was scanning the game instead.
I know NJ licenses have bar codes on the back of them... but I haven't bought an 18+ video game since GTA4 and I wasn't carded.

What?!
It's a point brought up on the show and hence a discussion was started on the site. I think you're going mad if you think everything needs to be in the listening thread brought up on the show. The listening thread moves with the show, this thread is about a single topic and is fine. I really get confused by you mods and your need to consolidate everything and step in WAY too much. Are you fucking bored Sailor?

NOW I remember what happened.
The guy at target was trying to buy COD:MW2 with cash. He didn't have his license. He was holding up the entire line. I wanted to get out, so I told the guy I'd buy it for him. he gave me the cash, I flashed my license.
The Target guy said "I have to scan the license" and I said, "wait, what?" and that's when I gave the money back to the guy and said sorry - I wasn't getting my license scanned.
The guy finally had his friend with a license buy it for him - and they did in fact scan the friend's license. I was trying to put it all together.

I got carded at a ShopRite on New Years eve (when the line was over 30 people deep at 2pm) but figured it was just due to the holiday. Before that, haven't been carded in a few years.

Why the hell do people who obviously look over 21 have to get carded? Fucking stupid. I was behind a guy at the convenient store a while back and he was carded while buying beer. He didnt have an ID on him - very evident that he just got off work. He was at least 60 years old - totally grey headed. The troll behind the counter denied selling him the beer and I stepped up and told him I would buy it for him. The troll said he would get fired if he didnt require ID from everybody - such a fucking stupid rule.

Imagine the shitstorm if he wasn't carded. I'm sure he would of equated it with this establishment serving kids drinks.

The place probably has a rule that everyone gets carded. Replacing the old rule of "every under 30 gets carded." How they know you are under 30 was always a mystery to me.
Also, the place probably only accepts valid IDs. Valid IDs would include an up to date license, not an expired license.
It's to keep us safe, so delicate Fez should be happy.
Furthermore, maybe Fez asked the waitress to call him Fez (like he does with his enabling psychiatrist, then showed an ID that showed "Todd."
