Time is the fire in which we burn.
So, is anyone excited on the new Google Phone? Personally, I looked over the specs, and I'm not sure what makes this phone so much more exciting than anything else is out there, and it's certainly not an Iphone killer.
I mean, it's an HTC phone with Android. Other than the unlocked business model, what makes it so different? It's a GSM phone so you can't use it on Verizon or Sprint, it doesn't have a keyboard... it looks to me like a Droid Eris for T-Mobile.
Anyone?

I always look forward to getting The Nexus from the random dungeon finder. With the right group it's a 20 minute instance.

I think it's got a faster processor than the Eris and the latest version of the OS.

I would so love this phone if it was on Verizon's network, but those assholes had the option to get it and decided against it.

The OS isn't that big a deal. If the OS is that important, you can unlock the phone yourself and flash it to the new Android.
Processing speed - fine... but seriously, what would make you get this phone?

...then why not the Droid for you? I don't get it.

It would be worth getting if you're a t-mobile customer. It's better than the other android phones t-mobile has.

It's slow, it's Motorola.

I still don't understand the plan then. I thought the whole idea was offering the phone on an open platform. T-Mobile is like the #3 or #4 carrier, isn't it? If Google is trying to launch a business model with the phone, it sounds bad.
if you had the choice between the Iphone and the Nexus on AT&T, you'd take the Iphone. There's no physical factor setting the phone apart from the Iphone.
So basically, what Google is doing is creating a faster Droid Eris with Android for T-Mobile and (maybe) for AT&T, but not really.

Phone moves at an extremely well paced speed for me. I did an in store test with the Storm 2 and Droid before I bought it, Droid blew it away.
Apps load quick, internet loads pretty fast. No real issues with the speed.

Yeah, I'm not sure I understand it either. I guess they want to see if there's a bunch of Google "fans" who are willing to pay for an unlocked Android phone. It doesn't make much sense to me either, but Google seems to know what they're doing, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

yeah, people who say the droids slow are comparing it to their laptops I guess.
and to ask this question seems idiotic to me, the thing has a big beautiful screen and android 2.1 its basically a bigger better eris.
and before you go bad mouthing the eris....a few months ago the hero and my touch were the two hottest android devices...
of course who cares about it since its on t-mobile, who somehow manage to have a smaller 3g imprint than att.

I was basically uninterested in the Nexus when I found out it's on T-Mobile or unlocked and able to go to AT&T.
I'm sure T-Mobile users will enjoy it, next to no one except Apple haters will bring it to AT&T especially for that kind of money.

I stand corrected. Google just said the Nexus is available for Verizon in the Spring.

with the AMOLED screen, why is there a lack of xvid/divx codec? And a trackball - still? those things always get dirty and require cleaning/replacement.
thanks but no thanks.

Do any other phones have a trackball AND a touch screen?

The Eris and the Hero do. I have the Eris and don't use the trackball much. Mostly just for taking pictures.
edit: It's also useful sometimes for browsing. It's easier to select the link you want without zooming in, also it's good for scrolling down on pages that have a lot of links on them without accidentally clicking on a link with your finger.

It's coming to Verizon in Spring 2010. Just thought you guys should know.
Oh BTW I found this interesting.

It's obviously missing some of the HTC WinMo phones and blackberries but I think it just picked the "top" from each carrier.

The trackball is awesome for quick navigation. Just roll and push.
<--------Has the Hero.

T-Mobile has expanded their 3g network at an incredible pace in the last 2 years. Also, being so late to enter the 3g market, they have deployed upgraded cell sites that will be easily switched to 7.2 Mb/s HSDPA and higher. I believe Vegas, Philly and New York had silent go-lives for 7.2 Mb/s last year, it's just a matter of having devices that can support those speeds, which the Nexus One can support.
AT&T is now just starting to retrofit their 3g towers to support HSDPA higher than 3.6 Mb/s, and it will be a long and difficult roll-out, since in some urban areas they cannot support the traffic generated by iPhone users.
