In this segment, NFL Quarterback Drew Brees throws pass after pass at an Olympic archery target, hitting the bullseye in 10 out of 10 shots. According to the statistics in the video, an Olympic archer only hits the bullseye on average of maybe 2 times out of 10, so they are saying that a quarterback of Drews caliber are far more accurate than an Olympic archer. I have a question though: The ratio between the size of an arrow and the bullseye ring and the ratio between a football and the bullseye ring seems to me to favor the football hitting it easier than an arrow. Am I looking at it wrong, or did they not take that into account? Or did they? Discuss.

I remember when he was at Purdue they showed him throw 3 50 yard passes right into a cardboard box at the sideline. His accuracy is sick.

He should join the Harlem Globetrotters and only shoot from half court.

Something had been nagging at me about this and I figured it out: the bullseye he had to hit was essentially the same size as the football itself. Compare the diameter of the arrow to the size of its bullseye. The archer had a comparitively massive target to hit in proportion to the target that the football had to strike. If this had been "fair", the bullseye for the arrow would have been like the size of a dime! The archer had a hard time even hitting the football sized bullseye!

the tip of a football is about the size of an arrow. have you ever actually looked at one?

Its the size of the object itself in proportion to the target that is the impressive quality of Drew Brees accuracy. Obviously a footballs tip is smaller than its widest diameter, but it is the overall size vs the bullseye that makes this incredible. The arrow is so small in comparison to the same bullseye and for the archer to miss as often as he does, shows that Drew Brees is by far more accurate. I have no doubt that if it was a hole in a target just slightly larger than the football that he would be able to throw the ball into it, and given the footballs inherent instability, its an impressive feat.

did you go to school? what inherent instability? If you can throw a spiral, a football stays pretty stable. The size of the football actually gives brees an advantage over an arrow. The wind will not move a football and therefore doesnt have to be compensated for near as much as when shooting an arrow. also, the fact that you are throwing the ball with your hand makes it more precise than tryin to put something in a spot using another instrument cause you are relying on that instrument also working right.
im not sayin what brees did wasnt impressive, but ANYONE who has ever done both knows that its probably easier to be accurate with a football then an arrow. By a long shot
