When I am at a party, I dislike saying goodbye to people, so at some point as its been embarrisngly documented here over the years, I will use my cell phone to excuse myself outside the house and once there, will quietly escape to my car and go home.

He has to go home and put every piece of food he owns in the refrigerator.

You know how you think people will say "Hey! Where did he go?"

They don't.

Just when I feel a little low about myself and maybe want to share a little, I am reminded by Sr71 that life could be so much worse and I instantly feel better.

Thanks for the boost bro!

That's kinda douchey. You don't want to say bye to close friends and thank the people who invited you for a good time? You just leave?

I bet you show up to shows for your friend's band, drink at the bar until they play then leave as they're breaking down too don't you?

You're assuming he has friends. That's kinda douchey.

If your above scenery has ever rang true for SR71, then I'm gonna say he was either:

a) too insecure and uncomfortable to say goodnight.

or

b) didn't want to tell his friend that his band sucked.

Maybe he was just too busy getting good deals on European cell phones.

i've done the same thing many times (mostly when i'm drunk). it's usually not even a planned thing. i'll step outside for a smoke, and then just decide on a whim to leave.

i guess it's some anti-social thing.

I've done this before - i had been on a 2 month escape from alcohol and was at a Christmas party. I didnt want to say goodbye to everybody so I pulled the old " look, is that a fire?" and ran out the other way. It was funny in that I was about 45 feet to the door so the people around me had a chance to catch me leaving. I got booed.

Best thing - just look at the general people in your area, start walking to the door and say later - gotta run. Never stop moving - it works!

Ronnie B calls this the Irish Goodbye, and I have done it for years (without bogus cell phone excuse). I think my friends all expect it by now

If someone did this to me it would take 2, maybe 3 times tops before I stopped inviting them to stuff. It's fucking rude.

You should follow me on Twitter, I blasted my grandmother for giving me a set of flannel bed sheets without a matching dust ruffle, what a faux pas.

I did write her the note, I just included a bill for the dust ruffle I was forced to go out and buy.

I know it is rude and wrong. That's why I posted it. I actually only do it when I am at a party that I wish I would not get invited to, usually family functions. Its not I dislike my cousins, it is that saying goodbye takes a real long time and what ends up happening is 9 times out of 10 times in my family, once one person leaves, most of the guests start bailing too. I also made the thread as a joke for all the other similar titled threads.
