I really can't believe this discussion is even happening. This board is against conversation threads and Fallon (and others) have explained why in plain English. Why does anyone feel entitled to it? No. Having new threads greatly reduces 'e-clutter' because the threads are far more organized when they are grouped under a topic. Sorting through 20 pages of shitty jokes copied and pasted off some other website just to find the issue at hand is the true cause of 'e-clutter.'

If you miss a great topic or classic fail that occurs in a normal thread, you can still catch up the following day pretty easily. If it happens in MPW, unless you want to sort through the horse shit, you'll miss it.

I really can't believe this discussion is even happening. This board is against conversation threads and Fallon (and others) have explained why in plain English. Why does anyone feel entitled to it? This is a messageboard with moderators and they put up a compelling reason not to have these threads, and it's met with "but why?" and "this board is dying". post purgatory is a thread about something that serves a purpose. mpw was never anything other than post-whoring.

as to those who say, "well, you allowed it before, you can't not allow it now!" the original was locked right away. the mods at that time allowed themselves to get bullied into re-opening it, even though the vast majority of mods and posters were against it. "hey, it's a one-time thing! it's fun for the kids!" then it was locked and mikey came up with his idea of doing one for charity. i think that was a silly idea, akin to people needing drinking games to get drunk. if you want to donate, donate; you don't need to post-whore to do so. i think it was a bad idea to allow that thread, but it is what it is. now, after allowing two exceptions to what has always been a clear rule, the rule is being clearly enforced.

Conversations usually based around a common theme with the normal jokes thrown around, sure. But to say even a majority of the posts, especially the copy pasting idiots all night long versus actual posts in varied threads is good, then you're wrong. Mexi has 18k posts and I'd bet 10k plus were literally tripe in those MPW threads, as was the case in this last one. It's one thing to get involved in a board, it's another to just hide in the fucking corner with their old kin.

Some in there actually post and add to other conversations, yourself included, but many just wallow in their own post whoring filth talking to themselves for hours as if it's even a conversation at all. A chat based front page is what you need like on STI and other boards as we've discussed. Perhaps this is the answer, but I doubt it. I truly think most here are motivated by a simple need for a hole to crawl in.

THIS is a big issue I've noticed over time. I rememeber when we had a similar situation as this happen years ago. All the mods made a complete effort to police threads for topic derailment. I think it really worked. I haven't seen one mod point out a thread derailment or threaten concequences for those doing it in at least 3 years.

As far as MPW and the shelter, I liked MPW when it was a charity thing. I really thought that was a cool idea, however the intent of the original MPW I did not. The shelter, however, I believe was a great thing for those we took in. Having that one thread where they could gather and discuss things I didn't really see the harm in.

So crazy idea here: let the inmates have their thread and every two months it gets locked. After every third one gets shut down the oldest one gets shut down. That way we save "space" and avoid this clutter.

Another big board I used to go to does this. The crew threads get locked every month regardless of how many or few posts are in there, purge, repeat.
