I am going to visit my parents and just got tapped to make the meal. I am thinking some hen and maybe a ham. My family is obsessed with mashed potatoes and a good gravy. I am going to try to make some sort of casserole, but that might be the experiment so I am going to have my mother make the standby green bean casserole. Make some fresh bread and maybe a soup (no one makes soup). Both grandmothers will be there so there may be an epic pie contest. Am I forgetting anything?
What do you have planned? List em.

I am putting my mom to work!
Christmas Eve is just a poor man's dinner... potato salad and wiener... (yeah greg will never marry me now) but on the 25th we will make some potato dumplings, red cabbage (or choice of sweet carrots) and most likely some stuffed loin for lunch. In any case there will be some sort of Braten and I will most likely just eat the gravy, dumplings and red cabbage

Xmas eve dinner involves 6 hours of driving and most likely booze while I prep everything the night before. Scotch for dessert!
I really am happy to be heading back to indy and to cook for the family though.
My wife is Italian and cooks 7 fish dishes on Christmas Eve. We drink lots of Prosecco (Italian sparkling wine) mixed with fruit juice (Bellini's). Stuffed calamari which is then grilled, cockles with garlic over pasta, clams oreganato, etc... We finish with Pana Cotta (kinda like creme brulee) and we wash that down with tons of Moscato D'Asti from La Spinetta. It's very different from Asti Spumante, in that it's a much more serious wine. Pana Cotta and Moscato D'Asti go together better than PB&J, and it really is the highlight of the meal.

Sounds awesome teej, I don't want to kick you down a flight of stairs out of jealousy.
I did come across a caramelized fruit custard thing I will give a shot at.
