Like a lot of communities we have the city issued bins....one black one for garbage (no we're not a bunch of raging racists its just a color) and a blue one for recycling. For a single guy like me they're usually more then large enough to hold my weekly trash but this past week I had cleaned out the basement of some stuff so put an extra can at the curb for pick up.

I get home from work yesterday and notice that my garbage can is gone. Hmmm....wasn't windy yesterday so doubt it had blown away. Don't think the new douche bag neighbors would have stolen it (that would require work and their too f'in lazy for that). It must have been the garbage collectors who ditched it in error.

Call 311 to report the missing can and expect to be lost in an administrative nightmare never to receive any compensation and have one more thing I can bitch about. I was wrong. Our 311 call center was quick to answer, the woman was friendly and helpful and assured me that my complaint/comment would be passed along to the area foreman. An hour later I had received a call from foreman saying he'd look into it. That was followed up by a call 30 min later that he had talked to the collector and sure enough the can had slipped while being loaded and was crushed. Was told there would be a new can delivered the same day. I'm genuinely stunned and pleased with the service received.

Why can't all interactions with government (or business) be this simple?
