Xander struck his head.

he seems all there and no signs of being concussed. yet.

My thinking is if we take him there, they will just shave this part of his head and then put a simple butterfly on it.

or i can not shave him and keep gauze on it for a while then what?

I probably wouldn't, but I am a bad, alcoholic father.

Seriously though, if you have any second guesses you should go.

More than likely they would tell you to not let him sleep for quite sometime. The time frame I don't know.

They probably would say to ice it.

Are his eyes dilated? Does he have nausea?

Odds are that he's fine, but if there's any doubt I'd head to the emergency room.

Better safe than sorry.

have him make up a thread and post in it every 7 minutes so I can monitor his motor responses. I,m a Doctor.. if he becomes lathargic, begin a Wingchakingin stretch..slow at first , then increase intensity..

Don't go to the ER. If possible, go to an urgent care, not an ER.

if he was behaving normal after the bleeding went away he is very likely fine. Personally I would not take Lukas is for this, cause it does not seem too bad, stopped bleeding and he is playing again. The ER would make him wait and miserable, going for tests and stuff, he is better off being monitored at home. Keep him hydrated and give him some ibuprofen for the head pain, some ice to cool the head.
Of course it's hard to tell the severity from your pictures but the way you describe his behavior would not have me too worried.

If he doesn't show any signs of being confused thats good. Ask a few things like what led up to being bonked in the head and what happened afterwards. He should be able to recall the full series of events including what both he and you said. Ask him some obvious stuff like what day of the week it is, what you might have talked about earlier in the day. One of the questions I like to ask if a kid has taken a hit to the head is "is mickey mouse a cat or a dog?". If they give you anything other then a "you're fucked look" and answer immediately mouse its a cause for concern.

Has he pooped yet?
I just went for a big juicy dump in case you were worried.

I understand you are concerned, but I wouldn't waste the time and money on an ER visit for this. Just my opinion of course. If it's gonna keep you up all night just take him.

To be perfectly honest I smashed my head pretty good as a child.

I'm just going to leave that there.

I did get 16 stitches in my lip when I took a baby walker down a flight of stairs and face planted on one of those old school plastic bowls with the sharp plastic ridge. But hey that bowl blocked my face from the concrete basement floor.

we do all our own health care at home. we know better than any doctor. it's so much cheaper to take the $90 first aid/cpr course than paying for insurance.

His head looks fine in the picture. Just keep an eye on him during the overnight. If it was one of my kids I'd have them sleep with me for the night.

Kids bang their heads all the time, but if you have access and insurance and have any doubt, bring him to a doctor. Not to scare you or anything, but within the oast two years there have been at least two famous people who ignored or dismissed minor head trauma and had catastrofic results. Wouldn't you feel better knowing for sure? Ever kid bumps their head and 99% of the time its nothing, so the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor. Plus a kid is naturally reistant to injury due to their flexability. But I'd recommend you seeing a doctor.
