For the people who knows Steve Steak house in Carlstadt NJ, they serve the sizzling filet mignon with a maggi sauce. I want to make the sauce for the Mr.'s birthday on Weds. I found the recipe a few years back. Now I can't find it. Would anybody have a recipe for it? Thanks!

Can you describe it for those of us who don't know?

Weird, I was just talking to a friend about Steve's Sizzlin' Steaks earlier today. Sorry, no sauce recipe.

only maggi sauce I'm familiar with comes in a bottle and is pretty much just a liquid version of beef bouillon....not really thick enough to use as a sauce for steak (i.e. a peppercorn, bearnaise, etc.).....maybe if you thickened it with a roux

if its the liquidy sauce you're looking to find try a european or german supermarket or deli

I don't know how I get mentioned in every thread lately... I have Marc up my ass and now you are making fun of my traditional German pants.

And I don't think she is talking about the maggi seasoning in a bottle or the sauce mixes you can buy.

It's lleederhosen.

If it is, I'll never wear them. I can't have lleeder cradling my undercarriage, it's just unnatural.

If we're talking about the same Steve's Steaks, there "sauce" is actually more like a broth, so that is probably it.

He's going with that. Like I said I'm not a salt person, but love to dip the fries in it. We also have an Asain market up the street. He's going to check that out. Thank for your help guys!!

really? It's just the seasoning? Gross... my dad and sister put that in every freakin soup and on pasta. I can't even imagine using it as a sauce with just meat or fries or anything else.

My grandmother would take melba toast, spread on a bit of butter and then a couple of drops of maggi.

Just go out and buy some quality steak and season it with salt & pepper.

Steve's went downhill a loooong time ago and what it serves now is over-salted, under-cut horse meat.

Leave your meat alone!

That's how we usually season it and will tonight. We haven't been to Steve's in years. But he loved the sauce.

I'm inclined to agree. Good well aged bbq'd or grilled beef should be able to stand on its own with just some salt & pepper. That said there are a few exceptions. I do enjoy the steak sauce at Japanese Village (similar to Benihana)....its a sesame, ginger & garlic that is very good with their sliced NY steak. Also enjoy béarnaise sauce once and a while.

We had 3 bottles delivered today. We had a rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes and corn. I put some of it on the chicken. It was better than Steves!

Save the salt for the table- it will just draw out the moisture and toughen the steak.
