every time I plug into my USB port I receive the above message. My ports should all be usb 2.0. The computer is a Lenovo R61i laptop running windows xp with sp2

can anyone offer any help? I would love a little more speed on photo and music transfer.

Thanks in advance

when did you buy it? with a couple years it should have 2.0. before then maybe not.

did this just start happening? revert the drivers

Do you know for a FACT its 2.0? get new drivers. look them up on our manufacturers website.

Uninstall drivers for the USB and re-install

see if your device that you are plugging in needs its own drivers. VIA manual or manu's website.

Is it possible that the device only supports 1.0?

Does your USB device use it's front paws to rub it's back end on the carpet? Because you may have bought a dog's ass.

LOL

did you try everything i said?

cause im guessing you havent.

Start, control panel, Device manager.

at the bottom of the list there should be Universal Serial Bus controllers.

open it.

right click on one of them, click update driver....if thats not there right click, properties.

click driver, then update.

if that finds nothing

type whatever is at the top into google. look for something that says drivers.
DL it, install it

I just finished all your suggestions.

I do definately have 2 usb 2.0 ports, so I guess I will have to dig further for the software.

So the ports and device are both USB 2.0.....how about the cable?

As mundane as that may sound if its an old cable you might have problems.

What are all the devices you're plugging in? Depending on the topology of your USB controller, some ports may be sharing the same hub. If you plug one USB 1.1 device in, then all the other ports on the hub will run at 1.1 speed instead of 2.0.

ext hard drive

all are 2 .0 compatible, with new cables

This was going to be my thought, but if you are trying one at a time and still experiencing the problem then it is a BIOS setting or a problem with the bus. As long as the drivers are updated you should not have a problem. The other thing I notice is the message itself, that does not apear to be a regular system message, could be a Lenovo message, but I have a 1 year old Lenovo andd have never seen that message or had these problems.

Anything made in the past 4-5 years will have USB 2.0. And, his being a Lenovo I am 100% certain it has USB 2.

I know but if he did all that....what else could it be other than a bad controller or just USB 1.1

Then it's a bus issue or a bad IRQ acquiring which is unlikely in today's computers. USB usually shares the PCI bus on the south bridge so this could be indicative of a larger issue.
