The utilities I've found don't seem to work worth shit. However I have found a somewhat cumbersome but effective way to make this work.
1) move all the emails from the personal folder to the inbox
2) set up a rule to forward all items in the inbox to my gmail account
3) run the rule
4) wait
5) wait
6) wait some more

hmm, maybe put your gmail account into outlooks, and just copy the files over
meaning add your gmail as a 2nd account in outlook.
you can then make the rule based on account name, and run it

I was using outlook as the front end for my gmail account. Problem of course being I either needed to be at the PC with outlook running or VPN into it to check my email.
The rule thing seems to be working fine.
