This guy wanted me to look at his G4, with a 23" cinema display.
The computer turns on, with the startup sound, but no video at all, the monitor power light turns on though.
I opened the case to check the graphic card, looked good, so I used a PC monitor to check the card. It came on, although it was distorted.
So I'm guessing it's the monitor. Quite a few people said the backlight goes out on them. Anyone else had a problem like this? It's a flatscreen LCD. Just wondering if I should check anything else before I start taking apart the monitor to replace the bulb.

Do you get ANY picture at all? I mean even a flash? If it is a flash of something it could be your LCD Backlight Converter. If not it could be the LCD itself.
Have you tried pulling the graphic card out, and reseating it? Move it to a different slot on the motherboard, if available?

It was distorted so why do you think its the monitor?
Is the monitor distorted on other computers? Cause it would seem that it was the card since its making a functioning monitor not work....

No flash at all, stays completely black... I tried reseating it, and all jumpers look good.

Completely black when plugging it into the Mac.
I took a PC monitor and plugged it in, with a distorted picture.
The video card has a vga port, which I used for the PC monitor, and the Apple monitor uses a apple specific port, kind of looks like dvi..... Maybe the dvi looking output is bad on the card?

VGA will always look distorted when the card is set to HDMI, Display Port, etc. The backlight is a common cause of problems on older flat screens. Unless the connection on the card is bad it is most likely the monitor.

That's why I thought it was the monitor, because I expected it to be distorted when I hooked it up to VGA.
I still think it could possibly be the card, and maybe the apple video out could be bad.
No power for the monitor, video and audio are all in the same cable.
