I downloaded the free Wifi app that turns my wifi on and off by touching the button instead of digging through menus.

Except for figuring out how to install my own custom made ringtones and assigning a few bookmarks to the browser I haven't done any heavy lifting with mine just yet.

My buddy sent me that link a few minutes ago, their instructions on setting up your own file structure on the SD card worked for me, I have all my custom ringtones loaded as people's personal sounds.

I played with the Droid for a second time today.

the keypad sucks. Flat keys and no room on the top row is just bad news.

I found out today that I get a $100 credit on the 24th so I'm gonna wait until then. I played with it a little bit and wasn't thrilled with the keyboard but it isn't as bad as people are complaining about.

After two years of iTouches, the onscreen keyboard is really easy for me to use...especially in landscape mode.

Drivers are on motors sight, but all you have to do is bring down the notification panel and select the USB then click mount. Then you can do as you please

1. Press button on lower right side of phone to turn on the cam.

2. Aim cam at nutsac and press that same button.

3. Wait a few seconds for the pic to show up in the preview window...touch your nutsac pic when it appears.

4. Options of trashing, sharing, etc come up. Choose "share" and select your wife's phone number/email/facebook/whatever (and anybody else you want to share your balls with) and hit send.

Well today was my 1st full day with the phone out in PA where my band lives. I really really like this phone. It's my 1st smartphone with internet access so it's all new to me.

Returned an E-mail to my cousin in the middle of a Quick Check waiting for a sandwich, that was fairly awesome. I've come to like the on screen keyboard more but I'm getting used to the flat keys on the slide out keyboard. It's really not going to be a big deal but for anyone with larger fingers, or at least thumbs, I'd say go try one in store 1st.

My only complaint so far isn't the phone, it's the lack of any 3g coverage out where my friends live. But I do get at least a bar or 2 in most places out there which is a small miracle in and of itself. This is the reason I had to stick with Verizon.

The phone is just really nice. The photos and video are very high quality for a phone. I didn't use it as a GPS yet but it's picking up my position just fine in my house. Got all my ringtones in there along with photos of a lot of my contacts.

I'd recommend the phone to just about anyone really as of right now.

also someone asked about setting different notifications ringtones for different email some what.

if you click on the gmail icon...then hit the menu button you can then set its own notification tone.

same goes with the normal mail icon.

I did download tv.com, which is the site owned by CBS to play some of their (and Showtime) programming.

Ironically, the Flash app is registered to my friend's account in the marketplace, so I gave him a buzz. He didn't write it, he just let a friend put it on the Marketplace with his account. It kinda works in emulating Flash 7 to 9, but really isn't worth it.

Only problem with that is, once you hand the phone over, you don't know how secure the data is.

People may have secure or confidential numbers or contacts in their phone they don't want a third party having access to. Just saying.

nope its a stand alone machine which i would DOUBT has a memory as of its size.

Im not worried about verizon stealing my contacts.

if i need to call some sleeper cell friends ill use a burn phone.

I'm still annoyed that Verizon hasn't offered a price plan for the Droid similar to the iPhone plan.

10 bucks for unlimited in-network text, pic, video messaging plus the extra 30 for web and email.

Even at the lowest voice plan, it makes it 80+ taxes.

As much as I want the phone, I can't justify it until Verizon changes their price structure.

My LG Dare will continue to do what I want on my grandfathered plan from 2000.

Unless I can use the phone as a teathered USB modem out at my cabin like I can my LG, I am not as interested.

Plus, my plan considers data as minutes during non-peak times.

With unlimited nights and weekends, I can use it as a broadband modem out at my cabin.

Granted, the speeds are in the 60-80k range but that is good enough for web surfing and email.

your phone is dark screened, on but not active. you get a txt message. you can read the message on the screen without unlocking it. so anyone walking by can read your txt or reply. this happening to anyone else? i want it to be so i have to pick up the phone, unlock it, and then reply.

yea i did, handcent which i like, but it is also kind of annoying at the same time. i might be getting rid of it

OK I removed it and it back to normal. some of these apps are great, but they fuck with the functionality. in this case, 2 things were messed up. the texts showing up on the main screen and also, you could not get rid of the notification. you had to open up 2 apps to get rid of it

i dont think these are made to integrate all to well with this droid because with missed call installed and running it also had another notification, so 3 in total.

it is goofy.

OK, I am having a problem with the Facebook app that came preloaded on the Droid. I can't seem to figure out how to get photos I take with my Droid and upload form it to display on my Wall. When I upload a photo it wants to put it in a photo album called Mobie Photos or something like that. Problem is I can't see that album from my phone. No huge deal, I can select to put my photos in the one album I can see from my phone.

But I still can't figure out how to update my Wall with that photo. I really just wanted to update my friends from the front of clubs I play, good places I eat, etc. Maybe just hanging out doing some stupid shit, ya know, just like all the other useless photos on Facebook.

Can anyone help me?

OK, I am having a problem with the Facebook app that came preloaded on the Droid. I can't seem to figure out how to get photos I take with my Droid and upload form it to display on my Wall. When I upload a photo it wants to put it in a photo album called Mobie Photos or something like that. Problem is I can't see that album from my phone. No huge deal, I can select to put my photos in the one album I can see from my phone.

But I still can't figure out how to update my Wall with that photo. I really just wanted to update my friends from the front of clubs I play, good places I eat, etc. Maybe just hanging out doing some stupid shit, ya know, just like all the other useless photos on Facebook.

Can anyone help me?

What do you think? It's not full because I have an iPod but there's a bunch on there. Since it has a headphone jack on it I can use it just like I use my iPod in my car so I have a few albums on there on the off chance I forget my iPod.

Also used he Pandora app for the 1st time yesterday, it wasn't bad.

Alrighty. Ive use pandora on the PC before it wasnt bad.

Using the pandora on the phone is a lot easier and is nice to listen to your type of music. And to hear band that you havent really heard of. (maybe)

The Media player that comes on the phone does leave a lot to be desired.

But for music you can DL RockOn. Its free and a pretty darn good app.

It scans your files then DL's the album art for them all if they have info.

And the UI looks so much better.

Videos.....i havent got one on there to work yet but people are saying the ones meant for Ipod's will work on there.

I will have to see.

but you should really try the RockOn app.

And the other nice thing is the speaker phone. You can have the music play without head phones. I do that sometimes. Its not extremely crisp audio but it works.

I was using the speaker phone to listen to Pandora today again. It worked out great, I had my ears unplugged so I could hear my grandmother talking but at the same time hear the music when we were working in our yard. Earphones are preferred but not when I'm with someone talking of course. But I can use it like an iPod with headphones whenever I feel like it.

Now this morning I wake up, check it an it says it is getting no signal and no 3g. Another restart fixed that.

The sound problem happened to me once...and like you said, a restart fixed it. I read later that day that this was a known issue that will be addressed...just like the supposed camera problem (I've had no problems with pics).

Hmmm, very weird. I recovered my contacts. I had to go into the contact settings, and re-import them from the SD card. Why I had to do this baffles me. My phone log is gone forever, but who gives a shit?

BTW, you're also correct on google saving the contact list. After I had recovered my list from the card, I did some poking around my google account and found it.

i havent used twitdroid but i use Swift. i like it and it lets me upload pics from the camera shar thing, unlike seesmic. But seesmic lets me into profiles and what not better.

but you can do it with out an app. under manage applications you have to go into everyone you think is running and force stop it.

Just installed it. HOLY FUCK! There was a ton of programs running. Great app. I am surprised the phone didn't come with something like this.

My last phone was WiMo 6.1 also (Samsung i760) and Task Manager was great for cleaning up memory.

Be aware that some programs will bring themselves back to life, even when you don't run them, so check ATK regularly to kill them.

it happens to me all the time, just say wait. it happens when you leave the message window open, and then the phone goes to sleep. you unlock it, and go to type to quick it will freeze

it happens to me all the time, just say wait. it happens when you leave the message window open, and then the phone goes to sleep. you unlock it, and go to type to quick it will freeze

hope they send a fix for that with the update.

I had a new problem the other day. Droid had close to a full charge, then in the middle of the mall it gives me a low battery warning. I get back to the car, plug it in and it instantly goes fro, the 5% warning up to 60%. I guess not a huge problem but a concern.

I've had that at least once with every cell phone I ever owned. Its weird.

my idiot brother(dude is extremely intelligent but has no street smarts) rattled off all of the issues that were addressed in the update. i can only remember a few though:

improved battery life
visual voice mail got tweeked
"app force close" issues were addressed

there were more....i just don't remember but we'll find out soon enough

Does anybody have the update yet? I thought maybe it automatically downloaded earlier today, as my phone restarted a couple of times without me doing anything. Yet there's nothing to really indicate this has indeed happened.

Here’s what we’ve got: a clear explanation from a VZW connect that outlines how the OTA updates work for the Motorola DROID. At noon today, approximately 1,000 people received the notification to update their handset. At around midnight this evening, 9,000 more will receive it. After the initial 10,000, there is a 48-hour waiting period. No one after that receives anything until December 10th at 12AM, which will be 200,000 people. It will continue at 200,000 devices a day until everyone is updated.

If you can save them on your computer as a csv, you can then import them into your gmail account and synch them to your phone. I did it for wife's Nokia using windows contacts.

OK i still have yet to get my TXT message but i did remember one other thing that will be included in the OTA update.......apparently people have had issues with echoing when they're talking on the phone and that being addressed.

I got it last night, not much of a difference. When you go to unlock your phone, the time is bigger on the left hand side.

The issues I've had so far:


The battery went to 5% but was charged
The 3G and cell signal went to zero, had to restart
The screen wouldn't come off sleep mode, had to restart
My volume went all the way down, had to restart
Voice on the phone sounded weird, but then suddenly it was fine


I am not dissatisfied with the thing at all, just hope most to all of those problems are addressed.

I will say one thing about the mic, you cannot cradle this phone in between your face and shoulder. If you don't speak directly into the fucking mic hole no one can understand you. Which is odd because I've found the speakerphone is so good I haven't needed to take my bluetooth into the car anymore, I just use the speakerphone. It doesn't echo back into the person's ear and the speaker on the back is great.

I just had call issues calling my buddy as we were discussing the Droid update, lol. All of a sudden his voice got really weird like he was holdig his nose and remained like that for the rest of the call, so I just had to let him go.

I don't know if anyone noticed but here is an official Verizon page about the update.
