Learn swype and you'll never go back to a keyboard.
I have it, and it is 100x better then the Droid keyboard. But in general still annoying for me to use, especially when I am trying to touch type while i listen in a meeting or something.

have you guys tried out the Gingerbread keyboard thats available? I have Swype preloaded on my DX, as you all know, but I like the Gingerbread one better. The autospell is awesome and I get texts sent off way faster than with Swype.

So it looks, hopefully, that the Merge will be arriving soon, possibly before the end of the month. Of course, if there's another delay, I will call this phone the worst cocktease ever.
It's just surprising to me how many people are hating on this phone because it's not top of the line, 4G, superphone. What it is, it's a mid-level entry phone. That's all I need or want. Reading comments on Engadget is like an army of Mexis.

Does anybody know of a better music player then MixZing? I like it cuz it lets you edit but the shuffle feature isn't the best..I have about 2800 songs on file and it's about as easy to access as my ipod..It also allows you to search your catalog about 5 different ways..I'm pretty happy with it but if there's a better one, I'd give it a try..

There are literally hundreds of comments from people who are convinced Verizon's relationship with Apple spells doom for Android and Verizon is intentionally delaying the phone to focus on Apple products.

Is there anything on the market place or anything I can do to disable the shutter sound when I take a picture?
On my evo go to the camera screen like you are taking a picture.
Hit the menu button, go to setting, then go to shutter sound and change to off.

Nope. I have a Droid X and there's nothing in the settings except an option for a shutter animation. I though maybe someone put out a app for droid that acts as the camera minus the annoying picture sound.

I turned all phone sounds off and it does the trick.
I wondered because I didn't see an option to turn it off in the settings. All my previous phones had one but I remembered recently there was discussion on capital hill about making it mandatory that all phones make a sound when taking pictures so that it was harder for people to sneak pictures of people without them knowing.
man do I love Amazon. I could rave about them forever but if you have a phone that can run angry birds and it is not ATT go get this! I have sprint/evo worked great, I read some reviews that the amazon store doesnt work with att.
It is the paid angry birds rio app but for free so no adds!
Their is no catch I just downloaded it expecting something weird to happen but nothing. Just a gimmick to use the amazon app store, which I never heard of. So it is working, hah.

why are you throwing your phone?
Several reasons. Anger management issues one. Two, I've never hated an electronic device more than this thing. Again I'm to blame me for being the luddite but I've found this phone to be difficult in general to use. Simply answering the phone is tedious at times. Other things about it are ok.
Having seen the iPhone, I can't wait to get out from under this thing.

Nothing yet. The fucking thing won't die but it's gotten flaky. The phone rings and I swipe away and it doesn't pick up. None of the companies I've worked for will let me on their Exchange servers with it. I'm not up for a renewal until October so I'll have to wait until then. It's insured so if it does break one of these days, I'll have some options.

I hve had the HTC tilt since 2008, which is a great phone just old & kind of bulky. So I ordered the HTC inspire 4g yesterday. I read good things and I wanted an Android phone so I finally did it. Should be here tomorrow.
The only drawback I really got from the reviews was no 3rd party apps but I also saw forums for dealing with that. Anybody have any experience, maybe some tips, on this issue?

I beat the shit out of my HTC Incredible and it's fine. The case cracked, but the phone is still great. It's a pretty durable phone, even thought you feel like you could crush it in your hand. I would imagine the t-bolt would be similar. And I really want one.

I'm getting a Thunderbolt this Tuesday. I went to get a new phone this week and the kind girl at the Verizon store told me that my upgrade kicks in then and I wouldn't have to pay a $20 upgrade fee, so I'm saving $50.
She mentioned that the only problem is with the battery, as that it runs down very quickly if you're on the phone a lot during the day. There was a problem with the software, however, they will be releasing a patch to fix that problem within the next month and it will go directly into the phone so there is no need to take it back to the store.
I'm excited for the Thunderbolt as I've read nothing but great reviews, like this one:

not a great review really.
"Which is better, the Thunderbolt or the Atrix? As you will see from the comparison at the end of this article, they are very similar in features. The Thunderbolt is a smartphone on steroids, the Atrix is a miniature netbook computer. Which type of device do you want to carry? Which is better is in the eyes (and needs) of the user. I am putting my Verizon iPhone 4 on eBay tonight and getting a Thunderbolt."
That is just silly. the fact that the thunderbolt is, is it is actually just like a Droid X, with 4g really. Other than that, there is not much new under the hood. Oh and the front facing camera. It isnt a bad looking phone though.
in further reading of that review, it is stupid.

You need to set the phone to only notify you when someone @'s you or DMs you. Then if you want to just read your stream, you open the app (I use tweetcaster)

I've had the Thunderbolt for a couple days now and it's amazing. It'll take me a while to get use to it - my first touch screen phone - but it's fast as hell and has some amazing apps. Easy to navigate too. The only minus is that the battery goes quick due to a software malfunction but the company is sending out a patch to the phones automatically this month which will fix the problem.

I have the original droid. I don't have it rooted, and I don't do a lot of shit on it. I use it for texting, podcasts, streaming music from my home computer via Audiogalaxy, and ocassionally twitter. That's it.
Yet, I keep having to deal with "phone storage is getting low" messages, despite the fact that over 90% of my built-in storage and SD card storage is free. I've cleared the caches that I know have data (podcast player, text messages), and that's usually good enough. Not this time. Those goddamn droid forums have nothing to say on this, and the cache cleaner I downloaded from the Market does absolutely nothing.

I've cleared the caches that I know have data (podcast player, text messages), and that's usually good enough. Not this time. Those goddamn droid forums have nothing to say on this, and the cache cleaner I downloaded from the Market does absolutely nothing.
WTF can I do?
i love meeting new rf people, so fucking get a new phone fag, that shit is old as gvac. for fucks sake get a razr phone.
Anyway, my wife had this problem and she just deleted actual texts and apps. If you want to keep your texts try looking up a text back up app. Im pretty sure handcent can do it but you might need to sign up online for it.
And if you can come out here I can actually look at the phone HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
srsly though, sucks man, but like LZMF1 says, i've never had that problem either. And I have a ton of apps on my DX, so im not sure what eating your memory.
Maybe the streaming apps are cache something you can't erase unless you are well...rooted.
are you going to start to whine about new phones not having good enough keyboards for you too?
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhahahahahah

Didn't mean to be so asshole-ish, mexi. Imwas just seethingnhaving to go through this again.
The first time it happened, just deleting texts worked. Months later, same thing. The third time was a bit sooner, and also emptying the podcast player cache did the trick. This time was the 2nd time in 2 weeks. I have no texts or podcasts to delete. I finally got it to work by looking at the size of my apps and deleting a couple...which I shouldn't have to do on a phone that is only using a fraction of it's total built-in space.
A new phone will be purchased this year, but I don't care enough to switch every time there's a new model.
Btw, I'm hardly "new" here.

If it makes phone calls, I can text on it, and it can be a wi-fi hotspot, I really don't need that much from a phone. My current phone does that, but it overheats at times and it doesn't do hi-def video and it was WinMo.

I have the Droid X and the same thing used to happen to me. Did you download the app killer? Since I got it I haven't had a problem with battery life.
The thing is when I go into the app killer there are all these apps running that I never turned on which is what the Verizon guy told me was happening and was draining my battery and why I needed the app killer. I don't understand how all these apps are arbitrarily turning themselves on. I suspect its a glitch with the design of the phone. But, again, since I got the app killler I don't have any complaints (except for wifi mode - that eats the battery like crazy).

It's just bloatware put on by verizon. If you root your phone (I haven't), you can delete these programs and stop them from running. It's really fucking annoying, though. It's just shit verizon puts on your phone that you're not supposed to delete that they want you to use.

I know the WiFi is a battery killer, but I use it a lot, at home and work. I will look for the app killer. I used the XM app on Thursday and started to listen to O&A at 6, and by 8:30 the phone was almost dead. Even though the XM app does not work the best with my work WiFi. Also I can't believe the delay with the XM app...fuckin giant. But in areas where I work, basements and certain locations the XM signal is dead on my MyFi, so the app is great. Any recommendation for a actual App Killer?
Also with the Droid X, It is a great MP3 player, use it all the time and with the Amazon MP3 app it works great. I am really happy with this phone and hey I better be, I am stuck with it for 2 more years. But no real complaints.

Got a full upgrade after one year and turned in the Epic 4G for the Nexus S 4g. The phone rules and even though hardware wise it is very near the same as the Epic it is much faster, much better battery life.
My first pure Google phone. Fantastic not having to remove bloat, rooting is a sinch, Gingerbread is nice, and god damn does the Netflix app rule.
Does anyone out here have any experience with PDAnet on a verizon android phone.
I know that you now have to side load it but is it really as simple as they make is sound ? Is there anyway for verizon to figure out that you are using it to tether ?

It is faster. Has gingerbread. It is a pure google phone so no bloat and gets priority updates. No longer need to wait for Sprint and samsung to take forever to release operates. Build quality is much better. The sales rep at the corporate store I go to said they are running a special for sprint silver premiere customers that they can get a full upgrade early if they are at least a year into a two year contract.

I've been using it for over a year on weekends (and all summer, 3 months, and 1.5 months in winter) for all my internet needs, including streaming netflix and hulu and whatnot, works great and no problems thusfar. Samsung Galaxy Prevail. After 10+ years with AT&T, I finally decided to save $32 a month and get Boost. I really hope they keep their current plan for a long time. If they do, after a year and a half, I'll only be paying $35 a month. The Sprint network sucks in general, but it works fine where I live.
I wish it had Flash, but shit... I didn't have Flash before, and my old phone sucked balls.

I was actually thinking about getting that phone. Its a lot like the optimus. They are both really good med level android phones. They will do most of what you want you will be missing some upper end things but who cares you will be paying half the price per month with no contract. I had sprint for close to 10 years then Tmobile for 6 or 7 years. Now the past year I have been on prepaid and love it because the freedom of leaving from provider to provider and when you buy a phone its keeps its value! I have had MetroPCS and had good service at the best price but their 1x data sucks. MetroPCS 4g service is much faster. Boost has that new shrinkage that is great. To pay $35 a month unlimited everything after 18 months is a great deal and 3g is better then Metros 1x right now but by the end of the year Metro should be 4g network wide while I have no idea when or if Boost will get 4g. Virgin Mobile is the same thing as Boost but they have a really good deal right now for people who use data more then minutes. They have unlimited 3g data and text messaging with only 300 talking minutes for $25 a month. The great thing about that deal is if your get the groovIP app you can call via your data while not using any minutes so it becomes an unlimited everything plan for $25 a month!
Im going to be getting that app to try it out if anyone has tried it and let us know what you think!

Sorry been busy, I contacted Motorola via the chat on their web site. Explained the situation. I asked if anyone else was having problems with the update, and the tech said he did not know, but would report that since the update my phone runs like shit. Both phones.
The Tech told me to do the take out battery and restart, which I did a few times before. He then wanted me to send in my phone for repair. But I told him that since the update both phones are running screwy, so I told him I would not send it in. He then gave a number to a 2nd tier tech. I saved the number but did not get a change to call. I do not think it is the phone or even apps. I just thing the update is a little buggy and needs a patch..but then again what the hell do I know.
I also purchased 2 extended battery. Do they last longer, yes but not much longer. Actually one of the battery's did not seam to last longer, I contacted Verizon and they sent me another battery. Verizon's prices suck but their customer service is dam good.
As for the master reset, I think I will hold off right now, see if another update comes out.

I got the Thunderbolt yesterday and I love it. I'm getting 4g speeds of about 10MBdown/4MBup. My home internet was crappy yesterday and my cell phone was faster. I'm not really having any horrible battery issues. I turned down screen brightness and that helps... I've been using the phone normally today since 8am (calls, texts, internet browsing/fb/twitter on 4g) and I still have 30% battery.
The only crappy things I've run into so far are no camera button (I can deal) and GPS takes a few seconds to lock on my location when I boot up maps (it was instant on my OG Droid).
Does anyone w/ a tbolt know how to share a picture to FB/Twitter directly from Camera? On my regular droid, I'd take the pic, it would show it, and there would be a "share" button right there. On this one, it seems I have to share it from the gallery instead of being able to do it right from the camera?
My regular Droid was starting to get really slow and had random reboots... but I factory reset it and gave it to my brother (1st smartphone), so hopefully it will last a while for him while he saves up the cash to buy the phone he wants

Right after you take the picture, you'll see a icon with two arrows pointing up. Hit that and it will take you to a menu of social apps you can send it to. If it disappears, just hit the screen towards the bottom of the picture (not the menu) and it will pop up again.
The magic wand looking icon will also let you edit the photo with some cool effects.

Just wanted to update..I was having major problems after the Droid update..I was doing some searching and I found a forum post. Found other people were having the same problems, someone suggested doing a wipe the cache partition.. and since doing this the phone seams to run better...here is what you do.
Turn off your phone and remove the battery. Wait at least 30 seconds and install the battery (removing the battery insures that your phone's volatile memory is cleared).
With the phone turned off, press and hold the Home button.
While still pressing the Home button, press the Power button to turn on the phone.
After the red Motorola logo appears, release both buttons. An /!\ Android logo should appear in the middle of the display.
Press both the Volume up/down buttons at the same time to summon the "Android system recovery" menu.
Use the same Volume up/down buttons one at a time to select the “wipe cache partition” command.
Press the Power button to execute the command.
It takes only about 20 seconds for the cache to be wiped by being reformatted. After it is finished, the "Android system recovery" menu will reappear and you can select another command.
To exit the "Android system recovery" menu, select the “reboot system now” command and press the Power button. Your phone will restart.
Again seams to work better and I do not get any immediate dropped/hang up calls.
Hope this help...SSEYEYYAAAA

Does anybody else have a problem with the Siriusxm app? I have a Droid X and when I use my app I have to keep it up front at all times, if I minimize it to read a text, or check an email, or any fucking thing else, if I don't remember to put it back up front pretty quick It'll shut it's self off. The BlackBerry app didn't do that, pisses me off.

It does that because email and i think TXT messages go through as data. The shitty siriusxm app also utilizes data so it shuts down the data feed for it when you're checking email and or TXTs unless you have a 4G LTE device. That being said i haven't even bothered with the siriusxm app on my thunderbolt. I get 4G where i live i just have no faith in the app.

actually I can send and recieve both while listening, only when the notification that I am recieving one or the other sounds off IS there is a momentary interruption of the XM . That is normal to the program and not a problem. What I am describing is an inability to multitask for more than a minute or two, it is a sitiuation where the app must be up front in order to work, it cannot be minimized without turning itself off after a couple of minutes. For instance I could be listening, minimize, open facebook, read for a few minutes, close FB, maximize XM and all is well, but forget the maximize step and XM will shut off.

what email app does everyone use or is best on android?
There is the one that comes with the phone, maildroid any others? Which ones do you recommend?
How should I set it up via imap or pop3, whats the difference? I believe my email service offers both.
Any instructions on how to do the setup? I was able to do the steup on maildroid but hated the program and Im not going to buy the por version for $17.99. I dont remember how to do the setup and deleted maildroid from my phone so I need to know the settings again for another service.

If it isnt the viper do they sell an attachment to make her starter do this anyway?

They've already said that even when you upgrade your phone, you won't be charged under the new data plan rates. It's only for new lines of service. I had been holding off on getting my brother a smart phone for a while, but I threw him on a plan right before they went to the tiered plans so he'd be grandfathered in under unlimited data.

My android updated from 2.2 to 2.3.3 which I believe is gingerbread? Since the update the phones touch screen is way too sensitive. Every time I tap something I get a double tap or if I want to scroll I press things rather then scroll. Does anyone know how to change the sensitivity or how to go back to 2.2? This has made the phone almost unusable, its more work then anything to try to do the simplest of things.

Good I'm glad. Exclusivity sucks. The quicker cross carrier phones become the norm instead of a rarity the quicker the fragmentation of Android itself can end. Hell the Samsung Epic 4g is still sitting on Froyo, they were promised Gingerbread over 6 months ago. Meanwhile I'm sitting on Gingerbread 2.3.7 with Google Wallet. And will have a Google delivered version of ICS before years end.

I do not believe that phone exclusives is the reason for fragmentation. It is the timing of the phones, carriers, and the OS release's.
Most of the time it is the Phone Manufacturer. Google gives everyone the same amount of time to get the updates, what the carrier does with them is not Google's control.

Get SMS Backup, Titanium Backup and ROM Manager. Use tibu to backup all your apps and settings, use ROM Manager to create a complete system backup image in case something goes wrong, and backup all your text messages. Restore your phone to factory, upgrade, re-root, restore your apps and texts. In a nutshell at least.
Or just start using a custom ROM. I have an Epic 4G Touch (my first android phone), and I haven't used the stock ROM in a while. Sprint still hasn't fixed the loss of signal bug yet. I had to reboot my phone 5 times a day to get service back. The carrier process for approving software updates, no matter how slight, is ridiculous. I have to give Apple credit for having more control over their updates.

In my opinion.. No.. It's perfect.. I saw the smaller tablets and they didn't do what I wanted. The beauty of this is you can set your browser user agent to Desktop and actually read full webpages formatted to the screen correctly. Dual core and Tegra is awesome too.. Was playing GTA 3 earlier. :) I rooted it just for the sake of rooting it but it's pretty unnecessary. I haven't figured out a way to remove bloat yet.. The standard Gingerbread method of deleting the apk's from system/app doesn't seem to fly on Honeycomb.. I'll figure that out eventually.. It's not a lot of bloat though. It's the perfect companion to my phone.

I'm waiting for an official build from Google and hoping that source they have online is bunk but I'm not impressed so far.. Actually restoring my GB build as we speak.. I've tried three different AOSP builds and they all perform like wet asshole.

There's a lot of buzz about it...is this fucker a brick or is it as good as a lot of the reviews say?
C''mon, I want to sit at the cool kids' table.

Nexus S 4G.. Yeah.. All the ICS ROMs I tried sucked.. UNTIL Peter Alfonso just dumped his rainbows shooting out of my ass ICS build.. Finally someone who knows what the fuck they are doing built a proper ICS build for this phone..
So.. Yeah.. Now I like it.

Lemmie ask, how is ICS running on it? People have been building ICS Builds from source for the Nexus S 4G right from Google... It runs like shit.. Laggy at times, fast at times, trips over itself at times. launcher force closing, blurry text rendering when zooming on webpages... I'm waiting for an official build from Google and hoping that source they have online is bunk but I'm not impressed so far.. Actually restoring my GB build as we speak.. I've tried three different AOSP builds and they all perform like wet asshole.
I haven't had a problem yet other than when I first got it. When it installs your apps from your Gmail, it adds a home screen icon for most of them. When you try to take them off while it is doing that you get fc. So you have to wait for a home screen to fill up then start deleting them.

Figured that out.. Tick the menu button in the market, settings, disable adding widgets when apps install. Weird they did that buy default.. Could imagine allowing google to restore your market apps? You'd have the homescreen filled in minutes and constant "no room left on this home screen" messages.

Ok, I've had very few Problems with my DroidX, I've had it over a year. But suddenly I cannot SMS, when I try it clears the message but leaves the contact and changes the date of the message to Dec. 31, 1969. I have found online that many people have had this problem, but no solution. My phone may be a Dharma phone.

More memory and a much bigger battery. Like 2 days of use without a recharge on a 4G phone kind of big.

it has built in memory like an iphone not an expandable micro sd memory like most? the battery sounds great, thats my biggest complaint about android phones.
any plans for these droid razrs on any other service besides verizon?

Apple is suing Samsung over what they say are stolen patents on their Galaxy phones. Namely, the ability to unlock the phone by sliding an icon, and the voice command functions. Don't most Android phones have those features, and not just Samsung?

Maybe they're just going after Samsung first. They want them to stop selling the phones.

You aren't going to see any phones with Droid branding outside of Verizon.

The Steve Jobs biography shows exactly what they are trying to do: destroy Android. Jobs felt Android was a stolen product. This is just the first step.
And they are using our awful patent system to do it. There's so many patent lawsuits being thrown around out there between companies I don't know how anyone can keep track.

why not? remember when the motorola razrs first came out it was sold by only on 1 provider (i think verizon as well). After a year or so they started selling everywhere and became like the #1 selling phone for a few years. You would think they wouldnt want to limit their sales.

That wasn't the DROID Razr. You haven't seen the regular Droid anywhere else, you haven't seen Droid X anywhere else, you won't see the Droid Razr anywhere else either. Verizon is the one leasing the Droid trademark from Lucas, they either helped finance development of the phone or paid for it to be exclusive.

Well, yeah, if you want to pay full price for an international GSM version then you can. Maybe it shows up on AT&T later but it will probably look a little different, which wouldn't matter anyway. But there hasn't been any info on that since October so who knows.

I've been using Advanced System Care on my computers for a while now, and I love it. Today, someone told me about Advanced Mobile Care for smartphones. It's terrific! I had been using the Dolphin extension to clean up shit, but AMC does a MUCH better job.
