I agree with this 100%....only reason I took a dive into rooting and flashing a ROM was because I wanted to see what the hoopla was about Froyo. After I got done, I went back to stock 2.1....and I'm glad I did.

I had a very strange problem recently with my Droid. All of a sudden the app I had to toggle my WiFi on and off just disappeared from my start screen. It wasn't in my list of apps either but said it was still installed in the manage applications screen. I figured maybe it was just a weird problem, so I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and it did the same thing. So I switched to another WiFi toggle app and it didn't show up in the apps home screen but said it was installed. I went through about 3 WiFi apps before I found one that my phone recongnized. It seems to actually work now but it's kind of ugly. I went to look for other apps and the last one I installed did the exact same thing.

Anyone had a problem like this?

Also, I've completely give up using the hard keyboard, it double and triple repeats letters on my for no fucking reason so I'm using the on screen one for everything now which is kinda gay.

mount sd card, drag and drop file onto proper folder using your mouse.

well yeah, cause Droid Roms have been out longer and are more developed. Incredible took a while to root and make it stable. There will soon be more gooder roms out and they will be up to par. CM6 is a great one, but I just prefer Sense over anything else.

I am still going through my 30 day gaurentee with sprint. Was with tmobile for 10+ years.

Heres the thing i got 4 lines, and now that the other 3 have tasted internet data i there isnt a way to keep that out of the plan. In 10 days just 2 lines, my pops and i have used 3 gigs data. Seeing this i dont see anyway we could afford att or verizon.

So my question is should i just stop thinking there is another option. I have a hyge hate if anything apple and verzon is just crazy expensive to have 4 lines compared to sprint.

My 3g speeds blow and i dont get 4g downhere at school but im not crazy to think that this sprint plan with 4 lines unlimited everything but minutes is the best thing going, with 27% off with boeing. This 2 year contract scaees me but really just tell me im not crazy, please.

Also i have an ego and have been living with a second class phone with tmobile so having a top tier phone like an evo was also a reason for the switch. This phones looks alone are thr best out imo.

So I got rid of that useless paperweight Samsung Moment (Sprint) and got me a Epic 4G (Galaxy S).

Utterly amazing phone and Samsung is actually supporting the phone! Camera is incredible, HD video recording, incredible, the screen is a thing of beauty. We've had 1 update already and another is to be released tomorrow. Guess they had no choice but to support a phone on all major carriers. A majority of Evo users making the switch to the Epic have no regrets and the 4G rules! Like all phones some rooting and tweaking needed to really get the most out of it.

First update killed the battery life when they enabled "media hub" which was some dumb rent/purchase movie thing. Along with that came some DRM crap that ran in the background even in standby and nipped away at your battery. After removing the packages for it my battery life is amazing now. Custom kernel and I'm golden. Froyo in Oct for us.

With light to moderate use and a nights sleep this isn't bad. No taskkillers, no setcpu, no bells whistles and battery saving junk (don't believe in it). Just the default Android task manager.

It was a lemon of a phone with a MAJOR hardware problem that Samsung couldn't/wouldn't fix.

If you put the phone in Wifi, then off back to 3G you would get a EVDO lockup and there was no way out of it except to reboot the phone. It's been that way since launch. I had cash, the Galaxy S came out so decided to pay up to get rid of the Moment.

Are you rooted running a rom?

if you are NOT rooted go ahead and update.

It is probably just a minor fix for a bug or something.

If you are rooted, then check this


Hopefully, you have Root Explorer (and if you don't, I highly recommend it because it's so worth the couple of bucks). Here are the instructions to prevent to the FRG22D OTA update (which I was getting yesterday myself):

1. In Root Explorer, go to /system/
2. Tap Mount R/W at the top, then long-press on build.prop and scroll down to Open in Text Editor
3. Once the file is open as a text file, scroll down until you see the line that says: "ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.2/FRG01B/45394:user/release-keys" and change it to read as follows:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.2/FRG22D/50454:user/release-keys
4. Tap the back key and say "Yes" when it asks you to save (it will automatically back up the original file for you)
5. Tap Mount R/O at the top
6. Reboot

You will no longer get the OTA update notifications, because Verizon will believe you already have it.

I have tested this on my Droid and it worked but I am not responsible if you do not nandroid and take other similar precautions. ROMS are lwhere Developers take what we have, tweak, contort and fix it, then remove things and what not, then re-release them as their own. there is a lot of custom work in them though. They USUALLY tend to run better than the stock stuff.

As for following them its tough. there is an app called ROM MANAGER which helps a lot.

then there is sites like Droidforums.net , droidxforums.com, alldroid.org, mydroidworld.com

and then the DEV's twitter accounts are good too

Ditto, but that must the HTC scene. My roms came with all bloatware removed. Apps now will come out now with out facebook, twitter, and even gmail now. Less apps than ever. Not to mention they never come with launchers.

And roms that come packaged with things will usually let you choose and decide what you want on.

It would be safe to assume that you could get rid of those apps as well. Wifi tether, Flash player, Evo youtube, Superuser, Multitouch keyboard, and rom manager probably will be apps you wont uninstall. Not to meantion you need superuser to run rooted apps.

It's not well-explained in the commercial. The idea is you can find your phone from a computer or another person's phone, similar to Apple's MobileMe app.

Basically, you log into a site, ping your phone, get a location, and either secure it or send out a locator sound.

The mass storage option is in a much different menu on the phone (basically the Info menu).

Downloaded Angry Birds for my Evo last night and had a blast. Other than solitaire I never bothered downloading games, anybody have any recommendations?
I have really gotten a kick out of Pac Man Championship Edition. It is a little large and won't let you install it on your external memory, but I have been enjoying it.

By the way, I just want to vent about the Japanese version of the Google Market. I bought an HTC Desire v.2 and the stupid Japanese Google Market blocks a ton of software, like SlingPlayer Mobile. There is very little software outside of the Sirius/XM Mobile Player that is worth a shit. If I read about an exciting software title, it is probably blocked for purchase in Japan.

I want some fun programs. Even stupid GameLoft will bounce to the Japanese site where you can only purchase Java games intended for use on the Japanese industry standard PHS phones.

At least the Dolphin browser is available. The View-as-PC Site Plug-in is great for watching South Park episodes while on the train.

I have the Droid X..it is pretty good. When I purchased the X I looked at the Droid 2. X has a bigger screen and no keyboard.

As part of the root, I went and deleted a few of the bloatware apps, like Kindle, amazon mp3, etc. Now theres an Android update but I cant apply the update because of those missing files. I didn't know that about the market, that's really handy. For poweramp to make it "legit" they tell you to download the unlock file and never delete it or something - that's why I was concerned.

There's an update available, it supposedly increases speed, etc. I'd rather wait for Gingerbread but in the event that comes out soon I would want to be able to just unroot/update/reroot (assuming z4root works with gingerbread, or will work).

I should probably use rom manager to just grab a stock droix x rom and use that as a last resort option.

Although I am a bit dissappoint by the 512Mb of RAM as opposed to the 1Gb of RAM like on the Atrix. The fact that it does have a front facing camera, but a VGA one, bollocks.

As a suggestion..if you have the droid X and use bluetooth...get bluetooth FTP..it's free and works great. Best way to connect to your computer. I have not tried yet, but I think I can connect to my PS3.

Did you call XM to see if your account is OK? I had some issues with it back in the day.

No, but it works fine on my iPad also online and in the car. My past experiences with XM customer service were so awful I was saving that as a last resort.

I agree. Unfortunately I got an Incredible in September. And I was sure that it was gonna be on another carrier. i was really, really surprised when it was announced as initially Verizon exclusive.

There are three phones I'm very excited for; Thunderbolt, Incredible 2, and the PS phone. I'm not up for a new phone until September, though. So I'm sure I'll have a million other options.

Thanks for that link. Only problem is, it says "major US carriers" but doesn't name which, and the rumors are saying US Cellular and Alltel. Sprint already has this phone as the Evo Shift 4G.
