T-mobile is bleeding subscribers at spirit like pace....

Launcher pro is a great home replacement, its the fastest ive used by far, 3d app drawer, 4 static docked apps aand a super quick helicopter view.

Multiple screens and the ability to set whichever one you like as your homescreen....pretty good stuff.

Since Mexi no longer cares I'll provide you guys with the latest froyo news from Google's Dev Conference.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/20/android-2-2-froyo-beta-hands-on-flash-10-1-wifi-hotspots-an/

Much to our surprise at the time, when Adobe sent us a Flash 10.1-enabled Nexus One for testing, the phone came preloaded with a preview build of Android 2.2 -- a.k.a. "Froyo" -- the apparent turning point for curbing Android fragmentation due for a very public unveiling today at Google I/O. We've had a day or two to dig into it, and while we're surely missing some improvements here or there (Google was unable to provide us a changelog as of this writing), we've spent pretty much all our waking moments combing through every virtual nook and cranny. So what can Eclair alumni expect from the revised platform? Read on for more!

http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/20/google-claims-froyo-has-the-worlds-fastest-mobile-browser/

You heard it here first, folks. Google has just come out with the strident claim that the web browser in Android 2.2, aka Froyo, is the world's fastest for mobile devices. Having implemented the V8 JavaScript Engine that's already made an appearance in its desktop Chrome browser, Google's reporting JavaScript performance that's somewhere in the vicinity of two to three times better than what you can get from previous Android versions. We'll give this geek cabal some style points for the double equals sign up top, but will certainly be putting its bold assertion to the test in the very near future.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/20/android-2-2-froyo-officially-announced/

No huge surprises here, but Google just announced Android 2.2 "Froyo" at I/O, and the big addition is a just-in-time compiler, which brings a 2-5x speed boost to the system. There are also 20 new enterprise features, including better Exchange integration and device administration APIs, as well as a new device backup app that'll let you transfer personal data to a new device. Android 2.2 also features a new cloud-to-device messaging API that Google called "much more than a push notification service designed to make up for a lack of basic features like multitasking," and of course, WiFi tethering -- which was used to get a WiFi iPad online during the demo to great cheers. Google also demoed a new JavaScript engine in the Android browser, which is billed as "the world's fastest web browser," and a Chrome browser plugin that allows you to send directions from Maps on your desktop directly to your phone.

I may get the Droid Incredible this december. My company is finally allowing e-mails to be sent to phones other than Blackberrys, including the iPhone and the Droids. I can't stand my Blackberry Storm so I need something else.

I would get an iPhone, but I already have my 64g Touch that I will use for a long time. So the iPhone would be redundant for me. Plus, I can upgrade to another Verzion phone in december whereas if I want to switch to the iPhone and not pay a fee to Verizon, I would have to wait until next April.

By the time December rolls around, Droid 2 will probably be out, if you need a keyboard.

As I said, the only thing holding me back from getting a Droid phone is seeing one with a good keyboard. Ally is close, but Ally is basically a droid with a better keyboard. I want to see if something comes out closer to my change date that'll suit my needs. Otherwise, I'll go with Ally.

I am beyond psyched for the Evo, finally I get to have a cool phone.

You can get the phone without having the $10 surcharge, but you will be limited to 3g.

That extra $10 with the 400 minute plan with unlimited mobile to mobile and unlimited 4g data ($79 with the 4g surcharge) plus other fees (insurance, taxes) is still cheaper than any other carrier with their data plans included for unlimited data.

i thought seriously about going back to Sprint for the EVO....but Sprint coverage around Georgia blows dick, HARD.....so I could pay the lesser value Sprint has right now, but whats the use if your not getting full capabilities out of the phone with 4G?

I reupped my cell contract this weekend and got a Droid. What's up with the vibration on this thing? I feel like its the most gentle, inconspicuous vibration ever, especially for texts. Am I missing something, is there a way to ratchet up the vibrations? I really hate having my ring tones on, and every other phone I've ever had I could just hear the vibration. The little blinking light is nice.

Who cares about minutes when it comes with unlimited talk time to anyone on any cell network? And who uses a phone to talk to people anyway? They are for data more than voice these day.

After seeing the craptastic iPhone 4 and not being excited about the Shadow because I don't want to pay Verizon's prices the Evo is the best phone for the next 6 months.

•Premium Data Add-On:
HTC EVO 4G
This Feature is required with the purchase of your HTC EVO 4G from Sprint.
Because the EVO provides a richer data experience and the combination of features and services on the EVO provide capabilities that were never previously available on a wireless device, you are required to add this $10 feature with every order you place of the HTC EVO 4G. With the HTC EVO 4G from Sprint, you will be able to video chat with the front facing camera, run your device faster with an industry leading 1GHz processor, and browse the internet in both 3G and 4G markets. Plus, with no cap on data usage, you can rest easy downloading, uploading, and surfing the web to your hearts content.

oh and if you want to tether with your phone, its another $30

•HTC EVO 4G Mobile Hotspot
With the power of 4G from Sprint, you can turn your HTC EVO 4G into a Mobile Hotspot for up to 8 devices. Connect wirelessly from anywhere with your laptop, PDA, or any Wi-Fi capable device. This feature, only $29.99, will give you internet access for up to 8 devices anywhere in the country.

and a $8 insurance plan.

Ordered an Evo last night. $70 a month for pretty much unlimited everything is pretty decent.

Should be coming in the mail in a couple of days. From a flip phone bought in 2006 to this. Going to be awesome.

1) Yeah, extra $10 a month = $70 total.

2) To turn it into a mobile hot spot is $30. To tether I can just get an app if I really feel like it.

3) Insurance is $7.

uhm, no. the Unlimited everything with 450 mins is 69.99 + 10.00 = $79.99

if you get an app, you will only be able to do one device at a time with a usb cable.

insurance like i said above.

oh and hope you live in a few select cities that actually have the 4G coverage.

1) Yeah, um, what?

http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/2372/mexi.jpg

Look around, it's easy to save $240 for the life of the two year contract.

2) I don't need to be running a mobile data center out of my car. When would I need more than a laptop?

3) EVERY carrier offers insurance. We'll keep it for a year and drop it once the phone depreciates. This one is totally optional, people can pay for road side assistance for even more a month if they feel like it.

4) Who cares about 4G? That isn't even a factor when buying this phone.

well you could use your phone as a modem for your house.

If you live in an area where you actually do get 4G speeds, they would be comparable to cable internet at 10Mbps. which is usually a $45 bill.

With Sprint you could get it for $29.99.

or instead of having cable at home you could get DSL or broadband and use your phone if you need too.

Got the 2.2 that instrument posted. Not bugless beast one.

All good, I liked the old wifi tethering better with droid mod 1.0 This new way you can't mount your SD card and tether at the same time.

I have also noticed that froyo is a little slower to get the 3G signal, but I am also in an area where the signal is spotty. I need some more time for that to be conclusive.

Flash is sweet, but like all betas, needs work.

With comments like:

The HTC Sense user interface and all the extra HTC and Sprint software on this device just makes it a joke for anyone that wants to fully control and customize their device.

The guy is just being a jerk who is hating on the product for hating sake.

If you want an Android phone right now, get a Nexus One. In January I believed it was by far the best phone on the market. The new iPhone 4, though, is clearly superior. I’d rather see you buy that device and deal with the Apple dictatorship than get a phone you aren’t going to be happy with.

With no mention of the Incredible either the article is showing it's bias.

Meanwhile everyone who actually has the Evo is loving it.

We got an Evo on Wednesday. Battery is fine. I am never away from a charger for all that long anyway so it makes no difference, plugged into the USB port at a computer at work, cig lighter to usb in the car, and at home I never think about it. Battery lasts through the night when used as an alarm clock (getting a longer usb cord so it can reach the wall outlet but for now it will sit on the desk with out it) and works fine with normal use during the day while texting and some web surfing.

Running it like an idiot with 4g, wifi, bluetooth, and gps on at all times would be sure to kill any battery but those can all be turned off with one tap. Sense UI is perfectly fine and is a step up from the stock Android UI. If someone does not like it for some reason they can easily turn it off.

The incredible is basically a nexus one

The Incredible runs Sense UI, so therefore according to this guy is horrible.

It will come out eventually for most phones but if you root what you have you may be able to get it now if you really have a pressing need or want for it.

On 20 May 2010 the 2.2 (Froyo) SDK was released.[2] Changes included:[48]
General Android OS speed, memory, and performance optimizations[49]
Additional application speed improvements courtesy of JIT implementation[50]
Integration of Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine into the Browser application
Increased Microsoft Exchange support (security policies, auto-discovery, GAL look-up, calendar synchronization, remote wipe)
Improved application launcher with shortcuts to Phone and Browser applications
USB tethering and WiFi hotspot functionality
Added an option to disable data access over mobile network
Updated Market application with batch and automatic update features[49]
Quick switching between multiple keyboard languages and their dictionaries
Voice dialing and contact sharing over Bluetooth
Support for numeric and alphanumeric passwords
Support for file upload fields in the Browser application[51]
Support for installing applications to the expandable memory[52]
Adobe Flash 10.1 support[53]

Installing stuff to the SD card is a big deal. Frees people from the small amount of internal memory on the phone.

Anyone have these problems with other android phones, and what ap does everyone use for voice dialing?

I use an intuitive app called finger. I simply tell it what to do and it does it. It even works outside of voice dialing.

I've completely stopped using my keyboard in preparation for the droid x, my only concern is the phone not having a way to directly manipulate the cursor if I need to edit a word I've typed. I find it very difficult to place the cursor by touching the screen.

My question is for the evo users, being the only other android device I can think of with no trackball.....how do you manage to place the cursor?

HA! Same here. My son missed his by a few points too (cause he's so smart) last summer at the Dayton Hamvention. Yep, $15 a chance at the license. Unlimited tries of course. This place (http://www.qrz.com/p/testing.pl) will help as a study guide. It's free and eventually he'll get it. Free unlimited tries and his score will improve as he goes along. If you need my ID to get in, PM me. Once you get into the hobby, you'll find hams to be some of the nicest people around. Mostly old timers tho.

Meh, if you can get a soldering iron in his hand and he learns to build a few things, no harm done (http://www.canakit.com/electronic-kits).

The hobby is sort of dying. It will never fully die though. After the apocalypse, the intertubes and phonez will all be dead and us hams will crawl out from under the rubble.

I demo'd a Droid at a Verizon store before I ever got my Incredible and honestly...as cool as I thought it was, I thought the hard keyboard wasn't that great. I was using the screen keyboard more than anything cause I felt it was too annoying to just keep flipping a keyboard out and sliding it back in so I could look at what I'm searching for.

Swype is the shit, though. It's made my texting and searching a ton faster. Sometimes I don't even spell the word correctly and it'll pop up the word I'm looking for.

Any tip on how to use the setCPU overclocking app? I took the plunge and rooted my wife's Eris cause it's being phased out now. Just wondering on some roundabout numbers you guys are using so I can set it to them, assuming anyone around here has done so.

the keyboard is the same as the droids except a different layout.

If it's a different layout, then it's not the same. The big gold directional key has been taken out, making the keys bigger, and it also appears from the leaked pics that the buttons are domed, not flat. Those were my two biggest complaints about the droid's keyboard that a lot of people seemed to share and motorola took to heart.

why don't you just admit you'll never be able to get a new phone instead of making excuses and "waiting" for every new phone to come out.

What the fuck are you talking about? I bought a phone in October and I'm eligible for an early upgrade now. I want a keyboard. I like the Ally but I want to see what the Droid 2 is like.

i picked up an ally an its great. no keyboard complaints. the keys are raised up and you can feel them better. maybe a little small but fuck it..what do you need already. these fucking phones do anything. you can talk to them and they will just do what you want

no, its the same with a different layout. Same style keys and everything.

I believe you said you were going to get the droid, then the Incredible, then the ally, and now the D2?

how are you eligible for an upgrade already if you bought a phone in OCT? you have 1year contracts? and if are eligible from the droid x launch date till the end of the year you get a New for every 2 discount.
