Great cast (Aaron Pierce!) and based on a, surprisingly, true story.
Looks to be better than Clooney's last comedy (was it?) Burn After Reading.

This certainly does look good, though I can kind of see how it could turn into a total clusterfuck. Still, though, that cast -- Clooney, McGregor, Spacey, and Jeff Bridges as Col. Dude -- makes me think it won't.
And it's based on a good book on a really interesting subject. The Pentagon was really paying for some weird shit back in the day.

Some movie information doesn't seem to warrant an entire thread. For that which doesn't, post in here. Talk about upcoming films that are in production that you are looking forward to.
I'm looking forward to Youth In Revolt. From the director of 'Chuck and Buck' and 'The Good Girl'. I love the idea of Michael Cera in a mustache as his own alter-ego.
Here's the trailer:
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/109DbfWQvf4&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/109DbfWQvf4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
Released October 30th.

He's getting in all his movies before his appeal rubs off on the masses, although I do think this Youth In Revolt could be good, he is on the cusp of being typecast as the awkward nice guy.

Just heard about 'Get Low'. Picked up by Sony after Toronto Film Festival.
Starring Robert Duvall, Bill Murray and Sissy Spacek. Right there, I'm in.
From IMDB:
A movie spun out of equal parts folk tale, fable and real-life legend about the mysterious, 1930s Tennessee hermit who famously threw his own rollicking funeral party... while he was still alive.
No official release date, but if it is before the end of the year, it could be a best picture nom with the buzz from Toronto.

I merged the "Men Who Stare at Goats" thread into the "Movie News" thread because it wasn't very long. I accidentally made it the top thread by accident. Whatever.

Saw Men Who Stares at Goats last night...wow what a bomb. Just not good. A few funny points but just nothing. The wife actually fell asleep during it. People actually walked out. I guess I was expecting a sort of Burn after reading, which I loved, but this just does nothing.
George Clooney is funny but just not much.
Jeff Bridges is nothing.
Kevin Spacey was nothing.
Ewan McGregor was ok..but something was just missing.
Skip this movie.
Actually looking forward to The Road and Kick-ASS.

I want this on record but I have been touting Anna Kendrick as the next great actress for the last year.
I saw her in Rocket Science and was blown away, could immediately tell that she was incredibly talented. Now I see she is the co-star in the new George Clooney movie Up In The Air and she has major Oscar buzz.
But I called it.

I am looking forward to Kick-Ass...The comic is pretty good, only thing that sucks I learned more about the comic from the movie news then from actually reading it. Before the 6th issue came out the movie was in production..I find that annoying. But still it looks pretty good.

Taylor Lautner to remake Vision Quest?
He could wind up playing an updated version of Matthew Modine’s character in the still-in-development film, which counts Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill Entertainment (and Twilight and New Moon fame) as producers. We hear that Richard Munic has penned a screenplay that is “very faithful” to the original film. “Taylor saw [the script] and is really excited about it,” says a source. “It’s very much in line with his athleticism

I found out they're making a movie from one of my favorite books, Cruddy.
It's actually a little frustrating because I found out about it so far in advance, and have to wait until next year atleast, and they dont have anything except for the screen writer.
It's the same production company that made A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints and Funny Games.
I highly recommend the novel. Written by a woman who rejected Matt Groenings marriage proposal in college.

Sex and the City 2 is getting killed on Rotten Tomatoes: 15% as I post this.
A sampling:
When Marie Antoinette did this, the people tore down the f'ing Bastille. When our "Sex and the City" girls do it, they slurp it up like box rosé and Häagen-Dazs.
Abysmal...a chick-flick 'Ishtar.'
As tasteless as an Arabian cathouse, as worn-out as your 1998 flip-flops and as hideous as the mom jeans Carrie wears with a belly-baring gingham top, Sex and the City 2 is two of the worst movies of the year.
Continues to be little more than the female equivalent to porn, a fashionable but unrealistic fairy tale with very little actual meat, but this time, it feels more like a cash grab
I'd like to hope that this piece of shit is going to bomb, and we never have to see these whores again, and Sarah Jessica Parker goes back to her stall. It probably won't, because there's going to be too many fat chicks who go to ooh and ah at the girls buying shoes that cost more than they make in a year.
But I can see it having a big opening weekend then just plummeting in a second weekend.
And by the way, if you are a man and you go see this, you are gay. Just go ahead and start sucking cock. Even if you went with your wife or girlfriend. Doesn't matter. You're still a faggot.

In a blow to Tom Cruise's reputation as a mega-movie star, "Knight & Day" was a major disappointment at the box office in its opening weekend, pulling in about $20M to finish 3rd behind "Toy Story 2", and the Adam Sandler turd "Grown-Ups."
Cruise's thriller "Knight and Day" fizzled at No. 3 with $20.5 million. It was the worst result for a Cruise action flick in 20 years and a sign that audiences still have not forgiven him for erratic behavior a few years back, which included his couch-jumping incident on Oprah Winfrey's show.
"He's one of the biggest stars of all time, but no question, this has impacted him," said Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com. "It's not like it's irrevocable or unchangeable. Look at all the stars who have been jailed or caught in compromising sexual situations and then came back. Many stars do recover. It just may take a lot of time for him."
Reviews were fair for "Knight and Day," which features Cruise as a charming spy who finds romance with a civilian (Cameron Diaz) on a globe-trotting adventure. Yet distributor 20th Century Fox could not pull in a big audience despite a heavy marketing push that included sneak-peak screenings a week earlier and a Wednesday debut designed to build fan buzz for opening weekend.
Seriously, you couldn't watch anything on TV in the past couple of weeks without seeing an ad for that garbage. It's hard for me to think of any other movie so relentlessly pushed, which kind of tips off to me they were worried about it.
By the way, even "Valkyrie" did better its first weekend. And that was a snoozefest in which he played a Nazi.

So Amy Heckerling is directing a vampire romance movie; "The contemporary story follows two beautiful young vampires who enjoy the New York City nightlife until romance jeopardizes their immortality."
Thats not so remarkable, what is remarkable is one of the 'beautiful young vampires' is played by Alicia Silverstone who is 34 and kindof fug. I guess they're not trying to make money on this one. The other girl is Jane from Breaking Bad.

Hey dudes, I wanted to let you know on behalf of The Weinstein Company that Nowhere Boy, the film profiling the formative years of John Lennon, is releasing today, October 8, in the US.
The film already released in the UK and at film festivals and got some pretty great reviews (http://www.salon.com/entertainment/movies/film_salon/2010/01/28/nowhere_boy/index.html), so this is your chance to see it on a US screen! This is a must for Beatles and Lennon fans, and who can say they aren't one of those?
