Anyone picking this up? I'm thinking about getting it for the 360. Supposedly it's a "spiritual successor" to Baldur's Gate, which I thought was pretty cool way back when. I think it's coming out soon.

Great game. Spent about 5 hours on it yesterday, the thing looks huge.

During the human noble origin story, watch out for a Stephen Colbert shout-out when you talk to your brother's kid.

Do you know of any significant differences in game content or performance (other than the obvious interface differences)?

PC.

The game is made for PC, the controls are a bit cumbersome on the consoles, I believe. With the PC you get the slot bar at the bottom of the screen that makes combot a bit more manageable. Not to mention better graphics etc.

As for content, everything is identical, the DLCs are the same.

The review made it seem that it plays more like KOTOR on the console and more like Baulders Gate on the PC

You can adjust the camera angle. Right now I'm playing it from a closer angle, like Kotor or Mass Effect. But you can zoom out and do an isometric angle if you want and give it a Baldur's Gate/Neverwinter Nights feel as well.

With Black Friday just around the corner, retail shops are slowly jumping on the discount bandwagon. On top of the heap is Sears Corp., who will be offering the PS3 and Xbox 360 Dragon Age: Origins (also on PC) under US$ 40.

BioWare's latest RPG IP includes six playable preludes, main character voice options, character customization and vast land to travel. The discount comes in good timing too (well, for the customers, not really for BioWare), as the game's only set to come out tomorrow, November 3, 2009..

The characters and voice acting are drawing me in quite a bit. I already recognized the voice of Duncan as the guy who voiced Al Mualim in Assasin's Creed, and Teryn Loghain is definately the voice of Kain from the Legacy of Kain series. Very mature story in this game,
and not so much in the gore and sex but just in the writing. The dialogue is well written and the plot seems cloaked in shades of grey instead of black and white. It's refreshing to see a game based in a fantasy landscape actually feel adult instead of adolescent. Listening to two of my party members have a legitimate-sounding theological debate about whether a creator exists sold me on this game, especially in that they had this interaction with each ofther in the background as I walked around exploring a new town.

Morrigan is played by Claudia Black the chick from Stargate SG-1 and Farscape.

I'm really liking the game so far. While it may be lacking a little in the graphics (backgrounds are kind of shoddy, but the character modeling is pretty good), the storyline and gameplay more than make up for it. Seems highly replayable.

Yeah, it's linear and quest-based like BG2. I did enjoy this game, but I still haven't had the desire to replay a different origin yet (I played human noble). I feel like this is more of a prelude for an inevitable MMORPG. This kind of game feels limited to me without any semblance of free-roam and/or grinding. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait for 2+ years of DLC before that happens. I haven't dl'ed warden's keep yet, but I'm hoping it has a little more depth than the Stone Prisoner, which was microsopic. Shale makes a damn good tank, though.

They're already making a Star Wars MMORPG, it's should play out similarly with multiple "origin" stories for the different classes. So their resources are tied down with it right now, though maybe 5-6 years down the road they can return to this IP.

I would look forward to a big-budget fantasy MMORPG. I played WoW, but fell off at least a year ago, and it seems daunting to start over, but to start a new MMORPG fresh is something that I would definitely do. Hopefully I will be able to transfer my 4000 gold from WoW to whatever game comes out, regardless of the developer.

Just started playing - pretty cool but I am getting tired of all of the dialogue length. Also, I hate that you have to wait until all enemies in the area are killed before being able to loot bodies chests etc..
How/where do you get the training to wield dual weapons?

How/where do you get the training to wield dual weapons?

1. You don't have to make sure that all enemies are dead. Sometimes it takes a few seconds for the bodies to generate a lootable corpse, but that's it.

2. Dual-wielding is a skill, so just level-up and use your points on it. However to dual-wield full-size weapons you need the last 4th level of the skill, otherwise the off-hand weapon must be a dagger.

I'd love to have gotten the code to get some DLC with my purchase, but instead I got a code to get bloody armor for Mass Effect 2 cause that's a fair trade-off.

I also haven't been able to get into the game, all the origin stories are messing with my OCD and slowly ruining the game for me before I've even started. Today I'm going to say fuck it and try to start a good character and get to the point that I get addicted.

You change his tactics to defensive, she attracts all the attacks, everyone else in the party is free, she has more HP than any other character and has really good attack on top of that. I think Morrigan and Sten are much more annoying.

I thought that one was more interesting, you find out a lot about Shale before you free him. The other quest......

in the Deep Roads in a non-descript dungeon where the only thing that happens is you find out Shale is a woman who volunteered to become a Golem makes the other one seem interesting even if you thought it was boring at first.

Both are weak in comparison to Warden's Keep.

Well, the Golem DLC has two quests, a town, a new dungeon and a character. Warden's Keep has one new, long quest with a very interesting quest that explains some background and partially explains one of the major villains motivations. Warden's Keep also includes a bunch of great equipment, two new shops and a place to store your equipment.

The quest in Warden's Keep is better but Shale is a great character. You get more stuff in the Golem DLC but the other one has the better quest. They both sould probably be priced the same at $7. With the Shale DLC they seem to think they can gouge because they are including a character.

They do have the deal that you if you buy a new copy of the game, you get the Golem for free. So I have that and armor I can't use until I'm like level 20 or something, I suppose I'll get Warden's Keep with what I have left on my Xbox Live Card.

Yeah, that's the quest you need to complete. You need to cure the Arl. That will open one more area that doesn't last very long and then it's a dash to the finish line.
