I've switched back to working midnight tours not just for the money but because there are hardly any bosses around...just the one supervisor who you never see unless you need him.
Needless to say, this shift is taking it's toll on me but I'm gonna tough it out until I get used to it.
Anyone else work nights...and WHY!
Extended hours. We rotate a late shift that we work one night a week. Not really working nights but it is a late night.

I put in a lot of hours at night. I prefer it, but it is hard to maintain any kind of a normal life. I do it because I dont want anybody watching my kids but my wife or I. She's a nurse and I drive a limo.

I work overnight standby 1-3 nights a week. My wife works until 3 AM anyway, so when I get called out it is actually kind of nice to leave the empty house for a while. And the world at night is a different place.

I work part time...at night, not overnight. I enjoy getting out of the house and away from my family once in awhile. Sometimes when we get a new line we have to work until 2 am and that kinda sucks, but we just turn the music up loud and have fun putting out all the cute new clothes!
BUT I could never do it full time. As much as I love to get away from my family, I love being with them just as much.

I'm on nights now, which is 6:00 PM to 6:00 am, three on three off. Its not bad, I'd much rather work nights than days, too much brass around during the day.

I always wanted to be an educator in the day and a military watchtower guardsman at night.

I started bouncing 15 years ago, from there I went to bartender. Pretty much worked til between 2-3am 4 nights a week. After 10 years of that I got a day job. Its pretty easy because I dont have to come in til almost 11 but I still found myself up til 2-3am every morning. My body clock is pretty set.
So since I was up all the time I got a couple of bartending jobs for spare cash which helped out alot when the recession hit, especially this year. Ill never be able to work a 9-5 job because there is just no way in hell I can get up before 9am every day.

I would work nights. Mostly because I desperately need a job...

I work second shift because it pays more. I have the option to work third, but that's too late for me.

I worked my way through college working 9 PM to 6 AM, it worked great then but I could not handle that now. Now I only work 6 AM to midnight, sigh.

I work 4p-1a and it fucking sucks. At this point I'd cut my balls off to go back to Mon-Fri 8-5.

18 hours? How many days a week? Or, did you mean 6 PM to midnight?

Been bartending for the last 25 yrs. For the 1st 12 it was the 9pm - 4am gigs. The last 12 I found an upscale restaurant in a town full of rich folk, 3pm to 1am.

My Dad worked overnights loading and unloading trucks at a CVS for 8 years. His schedule was like 10PM-8AM. He was like a zombie for most of that time, he's been on days for about 3 years now and is like a new person.
