So my second 360 shit the bed. Drive failure like the first one. I cracked open the box and examined the drive, but it looks like I'll have to do some shit like flash the drive to fix it, and I don't want to mod my xbox in any way and risk a live ban.
This time I'm going to get an Elite so I can install the games to HD and hopefully avoid this problem. I know they're approx $300 now, is there anywhere online with deals running where I can get it cheaper?

Oh and I got $50 from Gamestop for my last broken xbox. Think I could get that again considering I cracked open the case?

well that depends on wether or not the Void sticker/seal is broken. If it is then no....if it isnt and you put it back to perfect looking condition, yes.
but you can check www.slickdeals.net for some deals
oh and there is a member here or STI that can fix broken Xbox's
i almost forgot....reynolds maybe....im not sure

Hey great news; I remember a while back you were looking into alternative HDD options, well it seems like microsoft will have an update to cripple any non MSFT HDD. So you would have to move everything over their official (regular 2.5" eSATA with a silver MSFT sticker) HDD or lose everything. But fear not, it's just in time for the release of their new 250GB HDD.

Yep, after reading about that update where they will render any non MS drive unusable, I decided it wasn't worth saving this 360 and would just get the elite

I understand the business model but since when was it all take and no give? All my business major friends btw, either have taken or will take a business ethics course of some sort, I just wish it would be put to use.

Hahaha on the seal being broken. I cracked that entire shit open. It's busted. Maybe someone on craigslist will buy it for parts... or maybe I'll keep it just to play arcade games on another TV

While we're on the subject, what are the basic differences among the XBox levels? I see that some of them are dirt cheap right now.

The pro for 150 refurbed is an excellent deal (Same website) It has the HDMI port. Only diff between elite and pro is the HDD is the pro's is 20 gig while the Elite's is 120 and the Halo one is 169.99 is the same as the pro but looks like this

The best deal coming up this holiday is the Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 Bundle. You get the game, a limited edition version of the console, TWO controllers, and other things.
I woudl keep an eye on SlickDeals, Amazon.com and some big stores like Sam's Club and BJ's. They tend to come up with a big bundle with some extra accessories and stuff.
I'm picking up the MW2 bundle in a few weeks. Sold my old Elite right before the price drop, so I made a little profit.

Yes, but it is perfect for some people that do like that game and do Co-Op.
Although, if you aren't into MW2, the Elite Holiday pack (with LEGO Batman and PURE) is perfect for 300 bucks.

O crap.
How do I transfer the shit that's on my current 20GB HD to my new Elite? I know when you buy the standalone HD add on it comes with a transfer kit, but I doubt this does.

Hmm. gonna have to contact MS about that. I knwo the transfer kit works from a 20GB to 120GB, and can't be tradsferred back. Not sure about 120GB to another 120GB. Can't you just swap the hard drives, since they are both 120GB?
But if you have a 20GB, you can use the Hard Drive Transfer Kit to move it to the 120GB.

I got the RROD last Tuesday. Should I get it repaired or just move on to the newest machine? What are my general options?
And even if you bought an Elite, how is it going to be RROD-proof?

Well, I've always heard that if you send your system into MS, they will replace some parts with the better parts on hand (better heat sink placement, better stuff). Not sure about chips. Google before and after. I know I've read a few here and there.
If it was me, I would have it replaced while under the warrenty. If not, go get a new. Be MS's little dirty whore.

My current drive is the 20GB. I guess I'll have to buy a transfer kit.

If it's RROD I would send it back for Repair. RROD is covered for 3 years.
My 360 was out of warranty and it was a disc drive issue. The 2nd one, and I think it's prob my fault... I have a bad habit held over from days of NES and SNES gaming of leaving the system turned on for days paused on a game. That's why I'm upgrading to the Elite, becuase I can burn the games to the HD so the Disc Drive isn't constantly spinning the disc.

I got the refurbed elite from geeks.com, and after playing a game for approx 20 minutes, screen freezes and almost warps with white dashes up and down the screen. FUCKING PISSED! I bought a Square Trade warranty on this shit, anyone know if they're decent?
