View Full Version : Sandwich Slicing & Eating technique

A guy where I worked knows I like this topic, so he asked me, so I will ask you:
Do you slice your sandwich diagnally, across or not at all?
When eating your sandwich, do you just eat it willy nilly, or so you eat around the crust and then go for the middle? Or do you do something unique?
I used to experiment with unusual slicing designs, like a Y pattern or a circle. Once I cut a diamond in the middle and continued the cut radaiting outward from each of the diamonds points.
Do you ever play around like that just for fun?

A sandwich is no laughing matter, son.

Cut just off of true-diagonal. Always eat smaller half first.

Sandwiches taste better when cut on a diagonal.
It's a fact.

Exactly.
Cut it across or sit at the kids table.

If I'm making a sandwich for me I won't cut it. When I'm feeding the kids I'll play around. I've removed crust and cut triangles so a grilled cheese looks like pac-man chasing ghost. I've made food look like space ships and all kind of crap. You can use all types of cookie cutter molds to make pizza and other softer foods. The "square shape" of sponge bob makes him a popular creation. A pizza cutter is great for teaching shapes to kids.
My kids will eat anything (regardless of shape) if thy're hungry, but i enjoy all the fuss.

I'll usually just eat a sandwich made with 2 piece of loaf bread as a whole sandwich. If I make myself a grilled cheese to dip in tomato soup I cut it both ways on the diagonal so I can use the 4 pieces to dip.
I know that would gross out Ronnie B but I just won't soup dip in front of him if I ever have the pleasure of sitting down to a meal with him.

I used to take a cup and force it though the sandwich, making a circle.

I like to use cookie cutters so I have odd looking sandwiches. This week is pumpkins and ghosts!

Unless it is a sub I dont cut. Sammiches are serious business.

I'm a dork and I still like my sandwiches cut into 4 triangles. It makes the sandwiches last longer. If I don't cut it at all I eat it too fast.
If it's a sub, I either don't cut it at all of I cut it in half on a slant.

I agree with Sailor
I need to take a shower to wash away the shame
who ever eats an uncut sammich is pond scum (no offense)
what ever Deli /Restaurant who doenst cut it, should be fined and/or closed down

To be clear are we talking about sandwiches made of 2 piece of loaf bread or are we talking subs. Because a sub HAS to be cut unless it's a very small sub, a bread sandwich doesn't HAVE to be cut but usually is.
2 very different things here.

I'm talking about loaf bread slices, like Wonder type bread.
The guy I was talking about went even further and asked about bagels. If you slice a bagel and toast it, and then butter it, do you reassemble it as close to the original as possible? I told him that I reassemble it, but take it apart and eat it part by part. He eats the bagel as if its a butter sandwich, which I find odd.

I don't cut my sandwich because I make it in the morning and by the time I eat lunch the cut ends would start to get hard.
I eat it from one side to the other.
Unless I'm putting something on my bagel, I don’t cut it either. If I do cut it, I put it back together and eat it like a sandwich.
i cut it on an angle, but not at the corners. like this

Neat idea! I must try that soon but it needs bacon on top with a bit of hot sauce, not ketchup.
