I know there is a small collective of black metal fans here on the board, so i won't be surprised if this thread gets few, if not zero replies.

Anyhow, i was wondering if anyone had heard about this movie or has seen the trailer yet. My boyfriend read about the idea of the movie awhile ago and we assumed it would be a straight to web/DVD deal, especially here in the states. Much to my suprise though, yesterday i found the trailer for it on Apple (http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/untilthelighttakesus/).

I am really surprised at how good it looks to be honest. I thought it would be shitty if not campy quality and that it wouldn't appeal to people who are really into the scene so much. There are also supposedly really exclusive interviews with Varg that haven't been seen or shared to date, so that's cool-even though he looks like a Eurotrash hobo now ( :[ ).

I have always wanted a more complete explanation of Black Metal's roots. I'm not a big fan of it, just got some Dissection, Emperor and Dimmu Borgir CDs. But it's a form of Metal and I'd be interested.

I'll have to wait until it's available on DVD or torrent it.

Moe, please throw the Dimmu Borgir album out. They're not as terrible as say Cradle of Filth but they're not anything special in terms of B.M.

I would say start out with the originals, Burzum (Filosofem & Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (If the Light Takes Us)), Darkthrone, Mayhem and some newer stuff like Taake, Gorgoroth (even though they've now disbanded), Watain, and Funeral Mist, Deathspell Omega.

There's about 3 songs on one of their CDs I like, they're not as good as their hype I agree. Dimmu Borgir somehow got thrown out there as "What black metal is" by some dumb asses a few years ago and I don't know why. Maybe because they just sold a lot of albums. It's a form of it but not the definitive sound in the least.

I'm well aware of the old school shit, used to get drunk listening to Mayhem, Emperor and old shit like Bathory. Just more of a Death Metal guy, just personal taste.

"Lords of Chaos" sensationalized aspects of black metal that never happened to the degree in which they are talked about in the book. The book also contradicts itself on a number of occasions, so it's not worth reading.

A good Black/Death metal Magazine for the latest info is Terrorizer, from the UK.
