On one of my XP comps, I made the mistake of using MSI's live update. Now the Bios is gone. I've found the procedure for restoring it, but no matter how hard I've looked, I can't find the damn thing online. MSI's website's only option seems to be to use their newer version of Live Update to download it. But I can't find a way to do it on a DIFFERENT comp!
I hate using torrent sites, but I tried a couple last night. One of them had it, but it wouldn't download after about 2 hours of waiting. Does anyone have any idea how I can find it? The board is MSI's K8N NEO V2.0 H. The bios that I THINK is the right one is 7030v71.
HELP!!!

What do you mean the BIOS is gone? They don't just go away. What happens when you turn on the computer?

Reseat the CMOS first an it should revert back to default. A BIOS chip is an EPROM volitile memory chip. You leave it without power long enough and it will revert back.
Unless there was a mistake/bug in the writting of the BIOS during the flash update. Then you need to contact MSI for the original flash.

That's what I need. I reset the CMOS. I even took the battery out for 24 hours. MSI is nearly impossible to contact. Everything I get from them refers me back to the Live Update program, which I can't run on the bad comp, and only sees the MB of the good computer, so it won't give me the original flash of the bad one. I need to find a way to download the original flash.
THIS is the MB. (http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=217)

Well.
What you attempted to do was upgrade the BIOS, and it failed. The computer kept working fine, until you rebooted or shutdown/started back up.
Recently, manufacturers have started allowing a backup of a bios to be installed upon bootup, from a thumb drive. If you can locate a BIOS file (the one included on the DVD/CD-ROM included with the mobo, or could be an updated one), there should be a key or combination of keys that you can tap as you are starting the computer up (during the POST) that will allow it to install the BIOS file.
Reading into it, MSI uses a feature called M-Flash that will allow you to do just that. I found this link talking about it: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/archive/index.php/t-2366841.html
Looks like you have to format a thumb drive with FAT32 file system, and include the file on it and make it bootable. Boot up to it, and the M-Flash util should guide you through it.
That is if the mobo yiy have even supports M-Flash
Edit: Also found this on MSI's FAQs. http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=faq2show&faq_no=10

That's the problem. I can't find the BIOS file anywhere online. I was going to use the floppy disc method, but USB would work too, I guess. I'll check out your link and see if it says anything about where I can download. it.

The problem is, even if I choose "manually download", it only gives me information for the computer I'm on. NOT the bad one.

I just noticed MSI's website. THat's friggin' retarded and lazy on their part. BIOS files should be posted on the website. Poor support and website decision by them.

No, I don't. I did some more searching and found a manual download page. They didn't have the original one, but they had an updated one. Hopefully that will work. Thanks. I don't know why I wasn't able to find it before.

Yeah. I've discovered that. And it turns out the bios I downloaded wasn't right. I've sent several emails and tried to use their live online help, and have gotten ZERO response. I may just have to buy a new bios chip. That, or give up. It's my son's comp. He's still in Army Scout training has built up quite a large bank account. He'll probably buy a fancy laptop when he gets out.

you could prolly just get another cheap MOBO for that same chip and stuff.

I have a MSI board. Their site sucks and their support is crap. Best bet is to call them. I have their number if you want it. You might wait a year and a day but once you get someone they should be able to help you. They are only open M-F.
Let me know
