I just ordered this. It seems so cool and easy.

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pgraF477ieU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pgraF477ieU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

It just came out so I doubt there are many reviews, but Apple usually makes the best stuff.
My current mouse has a trackball on top, and whiles its nice, it gets clogged and skips. This is all smooth and the whole top is touch sensitive.

Any thoughts?

Are the sides touch sensitive too? I love the side buttons on the 'old' mouse that bring up all your windows at once.

From what I have seen, the entire surface can be customized to your preferences. You can even change it from right to left hand use. I cant wait for it to come!

On the Apple site, its $69, which is cheaper than it is on eBay.

The top uses the same gestures as apple trackpads, so 2-3 finger swipes can be setup for expose or spaces just like on the laptops.

I think?

Let us know how you like it, apple got sued over the balls in the old mice......sort of like how rim is going from balls to trackpads on their phones.

I'm wondering if it'll be fully supported in Windows, especially since Windows 7 adds a lot of multi-touch support.

Because of Boot Camp, Apple must make a Windows driver for it; I just wonder what it will be able to do.

I'd love to use one of these even on a PC.

Yeah, they say 10.5.8 is needed...but the boot camp suggestion seems valid.

But gestures don't work in windows do they? So maybe it'll be a single button mouse in win.

The day I spent $69 on a mouse, please shoot me.

I really want this but my old mighty mouse works perfectly and I really don't have a reason to go out and throw down cash on this right now.

So the magic mouse finally came today and I excitedly open it and read the instructions and power it up. The booklet says to go into system preferences and open mouse. It says to click on configure bluetooth mouse in the bottom right.
I do not see that option.
I have a iMac G5 and apparently, like I have been fucked so often in the past, this mouse won't work with my computer!

Thanks Apple!

does your computer have bluetooth capabilities?

I use a Bluetooth mouse now. It has a thing that plugs in the USB slot. It also has Airpot, is that the same thing?

If you have any Mac other than the new iMac's, you have to install a software update to get full functionality of the Magic Mouse, but it should be available now.

Here are the official specs for the Magic Mouse, from Apple:

System Requirements

* Bluetooth-enabled Mac computer
* Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0* or Mac OS X v10.6.1 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0
* Existing keyboard and mouse for setup
* Two AA batteries (included)

I think the computer has to have had Bluetooth already, and it won't work through a third-party Bluetooth dongle thing.

Well, I had osx 10 4.6 and to get the wireless mouse update I need to download osx 10 5.plus so I am downloading it now. Then I'll get the mouse software update and give it a shot. What is airport? Is it Bluetooth?

"AirPort" is the Special Apple Term for wi-fi.

Ok, anyone. I went to Microcenter because they didnt sell Leopard OSX 10.5.0 in the Apple store. I actually found that no one in the Apple store I went to at the Walt Whitman mall even knew anything about software. They only seemed to want to sell a new system. Anyway, I went to Microcenter and asked a guy in the Mac area about getting Leopard OSX 10.5.0 and told him I have a iMac G5, which is a PowerPC and not an intel based machine. He said that OSX 10.5.0 (Leopard) will not run on my PowerPC.
Is this true? If so, I wont be able to get the updates necessary to run this mouse on it.
I bought this iMac used and its run flawlessly and I really like it a lot. Id hate to have to get a new computer just to use a fuckin mouse! Anyone know if this guy was full of shit, or should I try and buy Leopard?

Leopard will run just fine on a G5, assuming you have enough RAM (512MB is the minimum, but I'd say at least 1 GB.) 10.6, Snow Leopard, definitely does not run on a G5.

So it wont be a problem if I get it even though its a PowerPC?
Now I just need to find it reasonably inexpensive. Any ideas where I can get it cheap?

You'd probably need to go to eBay or a similar service now. Apple only sells new copies of Snow Leopard now, and would only sell you replacement copies of the version of the OS that came with your computer (i.e. 10.4.)

If nothing else, I think Leopard is a clearly superior OS to Tiger.

As soon as you install it, get your hands on an external hard drive, hook it up, and let Time Machine start running. That program can save your ass.

I do have an external, thanks for the tip. Now the guy that I bought the Leopard from is giving me a line of bullshit about sending it to me, having trouble with paypal, etc.

Does anyone have a Magic Mouse ? My Mighty Mouse broke last week and I'm going to try and pick up a Magic Mouse tomorrow. Best Buy has them on sale but every single Best Buy in the Central Florida area doesn't have them in stock b/c people are buying them up quick.

The Magic Mouse takes a little getting used to if you're used to the Mighty Mouse, but it's sweet.

Just be sure to get your system fully updated. There's a firmware upgrade to make it fully compatible on older models of the Mac (i.e. everything but the newest line of iMacs)

The nice thing about the Mighty Mouse is the low profile to reduce wrist strain.

Also be sure to go to the Mouse control panel, make sue everything in turned on, like the scrolling and double clicking, and set the tracking correctly.

Yes. That's what I get for posting at 1am. Magic Mouse. I like the thin profile, less wrist strain than a raised mouse.
