Anyone else downloading any courses from iTunes U? Essentially, it appears to be audio of courses taught at colleges across the nation including Ivy League Schools, Oxford, various other renowned universities, community colleges, etc. And from what I can tell, it's free.

I've downloaded a course on Ancient Greek history from Yale, and a course on the mythology of western movies from Weselyn University. I haven't had the chance to listen yet, but it should be interesting.

You don't have to be enrolled? They're just offering courses?

They have audio from some of their courses. For instance, I think Yale has audio from about 20 of its courses. You don't have to be enrolled at any of the colleges to get the audio.

It doesn't tell you in the course description what books are used, although you probably hear in in the audio.

And you don't take part in exams, tests, etc. or get grades.

Or get to claim that you attended Yale, Oxford, Harvard, etc. because you listened to the course.

Some of this stuff is pretty funny -
In Wesleyan University's film course "Western Movies: Myth, Ideology and Genre" they actually spend over an hour on "Three Amigos".... :wallbash:

On one hand, I like to think that providing academic lectures online will allow people to learn in an environment that is comfortable for them.

On the other hand, I do not like the idea because it makes the idea of learning at the college/university level seem too lax.
