If the Lighthouse project, a proposed $3.8-billion development of office buildings, apartments and retail space around a rebuilt Nassau Coliseum, doesn't receive the approval of Hempstead Town, Levy said that Suffolk County is "as open today as we ever were" to welcome the Islanders. Joining Nets in Brooklyn?
Brooklyn, meanwhile, is much further along in its effort to redevelop the Atlantic Yards area, where officials hope to break ground this year on a new arena and real estate project that would bring the New Jersey Nets of the National Basketball Association to the borough.
Sources with knowledge of the situation say that there have been no conversations between Atlantic Yards developer Bruce Ratner and Lighthouse partners Wang and Rechler. And they say that as designed now, the arena there could not house a National Hockey League team because it doesn't meet NHL regulations.
But that's not deterring Brooklyn borough President Marty Markowitz.
"I know we would welcome them as the Brooklyn Islanders," Markowitz said. "Let's get the Brooklyn Nets playing here. Once an arena is built, all things are then possible."

A possible Queens home would be Willets Point, near Citi Field. "We don't know how real it is because they haven't come in and given us any idea of what they'd be looking for."

I'd love to see a team in Seattle.
Bringing the NHL back to Quebec or Hartford would be cool, too.

Seeing as how the Chops barely lasted a year, I think you can cross this one safely off the list. Quad City only had the Flames for barely two years. I don't think there's much of a market for hockey in the upper Midwest outside of Minnesota, Michigan, and (maybe) Wisconsin.

I wonder if they change the name from Islanders if they move to Queens, or do they pull a Los Angeles Lakers/Utah Jazz keep the name that makes no sense move?

not the same thing.
they are far enough from the city not to cause too much of a cluster fuck.
to put them in queens would be even more of a traffic nightmare.
i really think this move is nothing more than an appeasement of manhattan residents and an effort to sell more seats.
want to sell more seats? put a real fucking team together.

I think people are forgetting the Wang doesn't just want a new stadium. He wants to build a mini-city in addition to a new stadium. That is what is causing so much debate.

And he should get it. I mean, I love LI but its pretty boring. Besides, if the Isles leave, the area will literally become a barren wasteland. We barely get concerts as it is. If the Isles leave, no one will want to come here for shows anymore. Maybe Kate Murray is waiting to make sure she is re-elected before approving this thing. Although as much as I hope she loses, she wont.
I maintain that they will get a deal done at the last possible moment, just like the Penguins did.
