View Full Version : USA Is Going to the World Cup!

The most important qualifying match for the US was tonight in Honduras, but it wasn't broadcast on TV.
Honduras, being the host nation, owned the television rights and chose to sell them to a closed circuit provider. So unless you were at a sports bar that paid for the rights to air it or found an online feed like myself, you saw an incredible game.
USA beat Honduras 3-2 with all 5 goals coming in the second half. Conor Casey scored 2 for the US and Landon Donovan hit the game winner. Honduras had a penalty in the 87th minute which would've tied, but the guy kicked the ball over the goal.
The US are now guaranteed a spot in next summers World Cup in South Africa.
The next game will be Wednesday at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. against Costa Rica. That game will be televised.

I saw it online too. Great game. But some bad calls. Jozy was clearly fouled. Instead, the ball went the other way, which lead to the PK chance for Honduras. Thank god they missed.
And the dozen people that watch US soccer let out a might "yay"

was out and missed the game. great result. it wasn't even on spanish tv? very weird. just glad everyone got out alive. espn was making it sound like a very scary place to be yesterday morning.

I saw the score on one of the sports tickers and looked through about 75 channels with no luck. this countries support of our soccer team is hideous and with a TV blackout how is it supposed to change?

That's great news. The World Cup is such a great event to watch.
Let's hope that the US team continues to get better on the ultimate world stage.

I actually enjoyed World Cup because the last time was when I had just gotten XM and listened to a bunch of games then watched some through to the Finals.
Don't know a thing about nor do I care about USA soccer. The World Cup is worth watching.

US forward Charlie Davies was in a 1 car accident which killed a fellow passenger early this morning.
The SUV they were in was basically split in half.
Charlie is in stable condition after surgery, but it may be a career threatening injury.

Davis broke two bones in his right leg and also sustained facial fractures and a fracture in his left elbow and suffered a lacerated bladder. A U.S. Soccer team doctor says such injuries “usually require a recovery period of six to 12 months,” making it unlikely Davis will be able to play in next summer’s World Cup.

USA vs. Costa Rica from RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
The US qualified on Saturday, but a win tonight gives us better seed positioning.
During the 9th minute, US fans are encouraged to hold up signs with the #9 to show their support for Charlie Davies who wears the #9 shirt.
USA's first goal should be emotional as I'm sure the whole team will do Charlie's "Stanky Leg Dance."

Even though we're already in this game still means a lot. Like donovan said, you always want to finish on top of the mexicans and theres a chance we could be ranked, which would be huge.

We can still win the group with a Mexico loss. If we are tied with them, I think we would win on goal differential, but I could be wrong.
