View Full Version : Toolbars?

I was a longtime user of Google Toolbar, but it recently has been annoying me, so I ditched it. There are a lot of really bad toolbars out there, and I'm always cautious to choose "custom install" when installing new free programs (Zone Alarm, AIM, ETC...), so I don't end up with a bunch of unwanted ones.

Is there a really good toolbar out there?

I have yet to find a need for a toolbar. To me they're redundant and clutter up the screen.

firefox has its own search engine next to the addy bar.

chrome uses it addy bar as a google search bar as well.

the less tool bars the better.

Fuck tool bars. I do have a google one but it is set to take the place of the existing FF search. It maintains all my bookmarks and mail so I do not have to dig for a bookmark when using another computer. All that other shit can go to hell.

I have never and will never use a toolbar.

I like my screen to almost look like the F11 screen has been pressed.

I agree, I use none.
I did for a while download the GoodSearch one and when I remember I click on their search to donate the penny per search to my charity... but other than that I have no need for it.

If you build websites, the Web Developer toolbar is invaluable. Anything else you need is built in or can be installed in a non-obtrusive way.

I'm using that, now with it set to Google. My only problem with it is, it won't open the search in a new tab, like Google Toolbar did. I get really annoyed when I want to search something, and it takes me away from the page I'm on.

Toolbars blow.

Peerblock + Firefox + AdBlock Plus Add-on + No-Script + Reload Every = All you need for your internet browsing needs.

Or hold down the ALT key before you hit enter on the search. It will open in a new tab

This one worked PERFECTLY! Thanks!!!

New Search Tab by Default
Type about:config into the address bar, and then put the following into the filter box:browser.search.openintab
http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/WindowsLiveWriter/QuickTipOpenFirefoxSearchesinNewTab_78C/image%7B0%7D.png
Double-click the value to change it to true.

EDIT: I meant to quote KingGeno. He beat Rob to the punch.

Lots of about:config tweaks you can use that useful: http://lifehacker.com/5041335/useful-firefox-3-configuration-tweaks

Google for a bunch more.

Also, I'm sure everyone knows the tab switch function by holding down Ctrl, and tapping TAB. I use that a lot.

I'm lazy. Hitting more than one key at a time seems too much like work. Thanks for the link. I'm gonna play with it some later.

A simple fucking nightmare and security horror.

how many screens do you have?

F11 is great for full screen reading.

If you build websites, the Web Developer toolbar is invaluable. Anything else you need is built in or can be installed in a non-obtrusive way.

I use PhBB and do not code so those toolbars are of no use to me.

Hope this helps: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2136/firefox_open_search_results_new_tab/

Great pointer, but hence why I have the google toolbar integrated with only email and favorites showing.

What the hell are all of those toolbars ?

I don't cae for many toolbars either.

Even in the Microsoft programs, like Excel and Outlook, I like minimal stuff on top.
