Bill murray is hilarious. I thinl he was a great replacement to chevy chase after he left SNL. He had some good characters. Chase only had the falling down thing.
My favorite movie of his would have to be What About Bob?

Murray definitely rules and has made some great post-SNL movies including last year's ROyal Tenenbaums. And name one thing Chase did that equalled Peter Venkman.

Chevy Chase made Cops and Robertsons, a movie so bad Comedy Central won't play it anymore.

I pretty much love Bill Murray movies...he has just a natural comic value that he carries well. It is as if he does not have to try hard to be funny. Just one of those guys that it comes naturally for...

the thing about bill murray is that he can re-invent himself like few can. he can do the silly comedies like Osmosis Jones, the smart comedies like Royal Tenenbaums and Rushmore and even turn out a good Polonious in Hamlet. Name one of the first SNL cast members to be nearly as successful and long lasting as him.

I think Bill is a genius...
The funny thing is that I go to school with his oldest son...And everytime I stop and chat with him I see Bill Murray...he looks just like him!
I just keep thinking...Phil?! Phil Conners?!

Name one of the first SNL cast members to be nearly as successful and long lasting as him.
Murray's great- Ghostbusters is one of my favorite movies, but I think Dan Aykroyd kicks some ass too. Not just in humorous roles, but he can do drama/serious roles too.
He was great in his role as "Mother" in Sneakers
He played a codebreaker in Pearl Harbor (small role, but he did it well)
and played Harry Sultenfuss in "My Girl" 1 and 2.
Granted, he's a gifted comedic actor, but he does have range.
Bill Murray's BEST performance was in Stripes.
"Where's your D.I.?"
"Blown up Sir!!"

three words:
Blues Brothers 2000
so that ends the hopes of a Dan Aykroyd appreciation thread.

All actors have a few sinkers on their resumes.
Bill Murray: The Man Who Knew Too Little
Even his acting couldn't save this.

danny ackroyd has been in some popular dramas such as The Black Chauffer but he's also playing Britney's father in Crossroads. Dan, though, has made far more worse movies (in quantity and quality) than Bill.

I've never seen Blues Brothers 2000, so I don't know about "ripping apart a classic".
I had a friend who referred to me as "Elwood" when I wore a certain pair of sunglasses, and I thought that the original Blues Brothers was hilarious. Lots of movies have sequels that wind up detracting from the original.
Getting back to the Bill Murray aspect of this thread, though, I think he's good in a lot of movies, personally my top 3 Bill Murray Movies would be
1. Stripes
2. Ghostbusters
3. Caddyshack

Osmosis Jones is a great movie with Bill Murray...
He is quite digusting and expells a lot of bodily fluids...What could be better than that?!

I dedicate this to Fez!
IMDB had a good poll today:
From SpoutBlog's 10 Underrated Bill Murray Roles (http://blog.spout.com/2008/10/08/10-underrated-bill-murray-roles/), which would you choose as your favorite?
Frank Cross in Scrooged
Grimm in Quick Change
Polonius in Hamlet
The Writer from The Lost City
Nick Kessler in Next Stop, Greenwich Village
Bob Wiley in What About Bob?
Wally Ritchie in The Man Who Knew Too Little
Tommy Crickshaw in Cradle Will Rock
John Bosley from Charlie's Angels
Hunter S. Thompson in Where the Buffalo Roam
I have to go with Wally Ritchie in The Man Who Knew Too Little (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120483/)
Released in 1997, it's overshadowed by Rushmore, released the next year.
And every time I see it, which is not enough, I crack up constantly.
