I might go as a fan of the original series but this movie looks like it is simply an update. Many moments in the trailer looked like they were straight out of the earlier films.
Now we'll know what these scenes look like on newer film!! No more 80's quality film viewing for us!!

the advantage that remakes have is that they will be able to tell more of the backstory of what happened.
if i remember, something happened and the parents burned him in a furnace or something along those lines. i thought the parents chasing him through the factory was awesome.
much like the halloween remake by RZ. the beginning of the movie up to where michael breaks out of the nut hut was remarkable. i turned it off at that point cause i had to go to sleep. the original mentioned it, but briefly.

Seemed to me to be the same story. Krueger was an accused pedo or simply a child murderer (?) in the original. The parents of the town burned him alive because he wasn't in prison where he belonged. He got his revenge by preying on the children in their sleep.
The scene of Krueger running for his life was good stuff anyway.

Note to filmmakers: please stop overexplaining the things we enjoy.
This is all George Lucas' fault.

Has any remake been necessary? (serious question)

Depends on who is remaking it and what angle they're pursuing.
The Cape Fear remake was great.
I actually watched the original Nightmare on Elm Street this weekend and holy shit does that not hold up. The effects were silly and the whole plot of the movie falls apart at the end to the point where I had no idea what was happening. Which is not to say that they should have remade it. It looks like any generic slasher film that is released today, except with Freddy Krueger.

Agreed. (btw, can't believe there's another La Coka Nostra fan on the board besides me. Awesome.)
And I can't wait for this. Looks great.

Produced by Michael Bay AND directed by a music video director? Talk about your fail proof formula for movie magic.

Same here. I am just looking forward to some new horror sequels/remakes. I will always have the originals to watch, but aanother spin of classic characters ain't bad.
