New show on ABC. I thought it would be crap, like all ABC sitcoms. But I turned on the pilot anyway, and it's not bad.

It follows the lives of 3 couples with kids in a mockumentary style. Some really great moments in there. It's not the usual crap of According to Jim or Raymond.

The dad (Phil) having to shoot his son with airsoft pistol was pretty funny part. We gave it a watch, a few chuckles. 2 out of 5 pinkie rings.

My wife was watching it and called me in, saying I might like it (sort of like Curb/The Office.)

There were a couple of pretty good lines in the five minutes I saw - including some stuff I was pleasantly surprised to see on network TV (like the "you named her Lily" line) - I'll check it out next week.

The dad (Phil again) trying to be hip talking about texting and using like "LOL", and "WTF" and saying it meant "why the face" = pretty funny in context. His character was very Michael Scott'ish.

Gay couple adopts a kid from Vietnam. They name her Lily. A friend comes over and asks: "Aren't you afraid she is going to have trouble saying her name?"

This show was nearly a last minute addition to my DVR. I'm glad I caught it. I thought it was pretty good.
Glad to see Jesse Tyler Ferguson (the gay ginger) back on TV. He was on The Class which ran on CBS for 1 season a couple years ago. He was pretty much the only reason I watched that particular show.

The Lily line I thought was great, as was the already mentioned WTF line.

I didn't expect all 3 families to be related.

Is this supposed to be a documentary style show? The families never mention having a camera crew follow them, but there's one point where Dylan the high school senior is walking up the steps and staring right into the camera.

Yeah, it follows the same conventions as The Office in that the style is that of a mockumentary, with the sit down interviews and some looks to the camera, but the crew isn't mentioned. If you watch the show again, I'm sure you'll notice a few of those things.

I'm really enjoying this show. I have been consistently laughing every week. Missed the pilot and but started to DVR it. One of my new faves. I was very surprised.

QFT! Same here. Me and the Mrs. are loving this show... Go on Hulu.com or ABC.com, they should have the pilot..

I thought I'd hate it, but I love it. It's sort of like Al Bundy's fantasy life - second marriage to a much younger hottie with nice breasts...plenty of money...able to avoid the family the majority of the time. One of my favorite lines is when the "wtf" father was talking to his daughter about how he was a hip concert-goer - a "haller". When she asked what that was, his response was that he followed Hall & Oates on tour.

such a great fucking show.
awesome concept, and to be honest, very realistic.
i've been hooked since the pilot.

oddly enough, however, the youngest daughter (with the glasses) reminds me of angrymissy somehow.

Spandeu Ballet with Ed Norton!

Really like this show, I have no favorite character because I think they all make the funny work together. No one person stands out.

Hulu.com has all the episodes. If anybody hasn't seen this show yet, it's worth the time. This and Community are my favorite new shows.

I haven't seen every ep, but my favorite line so far has been when the redheaded gay guy is calling Onstar or whatever about locking his baby in the car, and is yelling "people are judging me!"

Sofia Vergara's rack does though.

Speaking of racks, they sure did make Elizabeth Banks' look amazing last night as well. I wanted to be Mitchell in that one scene.

But yeah, this show really is great and Ed Norton last night was hysterical.

This show is so good that Im sure it will be canceled. Cam and Ed O'Neil are really funny. I like the one where the father of the 3 kids has the kidney stone and goes to the hospital...

"That wasnt the wind, buddy. We brought something forth."

I read an interview with him about a month ago. I can't find it, but in it he said he actually had been a clown and the writers incorporated it into his character. He's also not gay (his partner, Ed O'Neil's son on the show is gay) but was happy to get the part.

ahahaha i can totally see that. just google image search "fizbo the clown" and some of those look like they might be him before the show they look so real.

i've noticed there has been no affection/kissing scenes between them, it might have been part of the agreement to take the part. i don't think that takes away from the believability though.

"We don't have to kiss everytime we see a Volkswagon!"

"You don't like kiss-buggy?"

Ok, since this thread was bumped after nearly a year, I'll be the first to backtrack on how great this show is. This season has been a tough watch so far.

At the risk of sounding Fez, its been too much Julie Bowen. And Sofia Vergara mispronouncing stuff just isnt all that funny.

Plus the gay guys daughter is creepy when she speaks.

The new-ness is gone.

I'll still watch but it seems they've gone as far as they can go with these characters. I feel the same way about "Community". It looks like they're going to follow the "30 Rock" formula and limp through to 5 seasons and get their syndication checks.
