View Full Version : Traffic light Cameras

I was on my way to work this morning and making a left turn from one big road to another in Hicksville NY. The light turned yellow as I was goig though the intersection and I suddenly saw a flash of light. I believe that a traffic light took a picture of me. But the light was yellow! If I do get a ticket in the mail, how will they know I was driving the car? Also, I imagine the car is identified by the plate. Anyone know of things that can obscure the plate and are effective? Someone mentioned a shield, others a spray. Not that I'm advocating anything illegal you understand! Just trying to protect innocents from being fined for going through a yellow light. Can I plead not guilty? Anyone know about this stuff? I know it must be a new camera.

They don't need to know who is driving the car because its only a monetary fine, no points on your record.
And sprays and shields supposedly don't work, according to Mythbusters. But they only used them on speed cameras, so maybe there's hope for traffic cameras.

my wife got one the other day...they will give you a photo of where you are when the light turned red (you see the car and the traffic light) and then they gave her a photo of her driving thru the light and then one of the license plate.

the birdhouses (as i call them) take pic of you going thru the light from the front and the back. then, in the mail, they send you copies of those photos along with a full page pic of your license plate and the ticket. im sure you can fight it, but you prob will still have to pay.
edit: wj beat me to it.

Here's a good site that can help you with that. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEccxPPwXmI)

As Wj said the stuff used to block plates do not work, and the multiple pics will show who is driving and the plates. Get a traffic lawyer to get it deferred or dismissed.
I visited the research lab where they are developed. I saw how robust they are and how it's nearly impossible to beat them. The only one I saw beat was a hatchback where the trunk was popped and the passenger put his hands over the license plate.
Just plead not guilty and claim you were moving out of the way of an emergency vehicle. Or just suck it up and pay the fine. At least your insurance doesn't get affected.
