Both Marvel and DC have been doing a lot more animated movies lately that are released straight to DVD and can be pretty good. So far, I think DC's have been slightly better, if only due to The New Frontier. Given these films are going to keep coming, I thought we should talk about it in this thread rather than the various other super hero threads.
As for recent news, it looks like we're going to see the Crime Syndicate coming from DC soon (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/42363):
Warner Home Video will distribute in Spring 2010 (finalizing date soon)
An original story from award-winning animation/comics writer Dwayne
McDuffie (Justice League) rooted in DC Comics’ popular canon of
“Crisis” stories.
Bruce Timm (Superman Doomsday, Green Lantern) is executive producer.
Lauren Montgomery (Wonder Woman, Green Lantern) and Sam Liu
(Superman/Batman: Public Enemies) are co-directors.
In Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, a “good” Lex Luthor arrives
from an alternate universe to recruit the Justice League to help save
his Earth from the Crime Syndicate, a gang of villainous characters
with virtually identical super powers to the Justice League. What
ensues is the ultimate battle of good versus evil in a war that
threatens both planets and, through a diabolical plan launched by
Owlman, puts the balance of all existence in peril.

P.S.
Superman Batman Public enemies comes out in a couple of weeks that looks good as well, DC might not have its shit together when it comes to live action but the animated stuff has kicked ass

I liked the 1st ultimate avengers cartoon DVD. 2nd one was ok. I really liked Superman/Doomsday. Best part is when luther just tell his secertary to check something and then just pulls out a gun and blows her head off...great.
Looking forward to Superman/Batman public enemies....that looks great.
DC has better cartoons then Marvel. DC seams to go for a more adult audiance.

I just read that the voices for this one will be old favorites Kevin Conroy, Clancy Brown and Tim Daly. That's pretty good news.

I watched the Crisis movie earlier this week and it was pretty good. The best thing though was The Spectre short on the disk. It's like the Grindhouse version of the Spectre.

The Spectre short was really fun, the JLA movie was so/so. I liked how they made Earth 2 not truly evil but just being taken over by the CSA

I watched this last night very good and worth a viewing.
I think that this is most PG 13 of all the DC animated movies so far and of all the other movies this could benefit from a direct sequel as well
Plus the next one coming out in the fall is
Superman Batman Apocalypse, dealing with the Supergirl story which was the second story arc of the Superman Batman series
There is also a pretty cool Jonah Hex short on the Red hood dvd in the same spirit of the Specter one on the JL crisis on 2 earths movie

I enjoyed it as well. John DiMaggio is a worthy successor to Mark Hamill in the role of Joker. And Bruce Greenwood was a great Batman.
I also watched Green Lantern: First Flight recently. It's pace felt a bit rushed, but it's understandable when trying to fit in an origin story in 70 minutes or so. I thought it was very enjoyable. And I like how DC is including bonus episodes of the previous DCAU shows on the Blu Rays.

Superman Batman: Apocalypse was pretty good. I just like the fact they keep using the same voices for Batman and Superman.
