Other than play games and watch movies, of course.

Any good mods or hacks, or things I should look into using the device for?

No hack really. You can use it as a media server. It can stream media files off your PC. If you buy the program PlayOn ($40) it can expand on this feature, including streaming non-HD Netfliz movies. If you have a PSP you can link it with your PS3 and access it over the internet and and play media files off your PS3 and even play a limited amount of PS3 games (most do not support this).

PlayOn is good, as above - especially for NetFlix streaming, though I had some issues with recent versions of the software (the original ran really clean for me - not so much for recent updates.)

For streaming content from your PC you can set up PS3 Media Server (http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/) - free. It's worked great for me and runs a lot faster and is a lot more user friendly than TVersity (another free media server option.)

I was going to say you could put Yellow Dog Linux on it and run emulators, develop goober stuff etc, but I heard somewhere that they were disabling that (Other OS) in the Slim...I'm not sure if there's any truth in that. I put it on mine about 2 months ago and haven't used it (YDL) in about that long. :)

Yeah. No more Linux on the Slim.
