Went home from work during lunch yesterday and found my sliding glass door pried open and all of my expensive items taken. The partial list includes: 50inch Plasma, 42 inch LCD, PS3, 2 laptop computers, around 15 PS3 games and 12 Bluray movies, my shotgun, my Martin guitar, and my spare change container - with around $500.

I just lost well over $10,000 - and I am so fucking pissed off. The cops took fingerprints but they will probably be mine and a neighbor saw a vehicle leave the driveway around 9:15 with the trunk open. I want to murder the bastards who did this but I feel helpless.

Thank God thay didnt hurt my 13 year old lab - she probably just enjoyed the daytime company.

Man that sucks.

I had someone break into my house late one night (while we were sleeping) but only made off with a camera and some cash from my wife's wallet. I can't imagine getting as much taken as you did. Do you have insurance?

Do you own the place or is it a rental? Either way, check with your insurance, there may be options to recover the monetary value at least.
Maybe invest in some sort of alarm system, especially if this is a neighborhood where it happens a lot.
Sorry you have to deal with this.

I'm sorry to hear this buddy.

First thing you gotta do is report the shotgun. You gotta cover your ass when it comes to firearms registered under your name.

EDIT - Sorry I didn't read the part about the cops.

I am renting this property and my roomate has rental insurance - he is checking into it today. Funny how you feel all protected when you lock your doors but after this happens, I dont feel secure at all anymore. The neighborhood I live in is one of the best in my town - most neighbors are retirees and kind of have adopted me as their wild son that graduated college long ago but has refused to grow up. Robbed at 9 in the morning - just minutes after I left - they must have been watching. The cops said that 90% of burgularies are by people that you know and that really fires me up. I would prefer that it was a random robbery but if I ever find out it was someone I know, it will be very bad what I do back.

My most prized possession was moved from my bedroom to the den but not taken - my mother's bible that she gave to me basically on her deathbed. Why the hell would they want to take that?

No problem - the gun was not registered - dont know if they require that down here in TN?

Sorry to hear about that.

Though not as serious, I felt helpless when my car was broken into recently.

Hopefully, they can get an ID on the people who did it.

keep an eye on craigs list in your area, you'd be amazed how many thieves are stupid enough to post stolen stuff.

and possibly inform any local pawn shops.

Maybe start watching for your stuff to show up on Craigslist or eBay?

Thanks for the great ideas - I went to a few of the local pawnshops and most told me that only an idiot would bring that stuff to them. They require fingerprints and proper id for transfer of goods and the items sold are auto sent to the police for cross reference. They mentioned the flea markets were the best end result of the stolen property. I will look into craigslist immediately.

Also, I get to enjoy changing all my accounts etc due to the fact of all my business info and tax returns were on one of the computers. Ahhhhhhhhhhh....

That sucks! That happened to my sister in law not long ago. Get a monetary value of everything and you can declare a loss on your taxes for the next few years. I think its 2000 a year. Its not like getting the value back, but it helps lower your taxes. I hate that feeling, its like you are powerless. They had to have a lot of time to get all that heavy stuff out. What balls! Good to hear the dog is okay, but I bet you wish he could talk!

Sorry to hear that. A couple of weeks ago my girlfriend went home for lunch and walked up to her home where a guy was breaking into her front door. Luckily he ran off but much worse could have happened. She's been scared to death ever since and I'm trying to find her a better place to live. There are some really awful people out there and I can only pray that they get what's coming to them.

So sorry to hear this. I get the feeling that you may know them as well. I think most burglars would see a big dog and just run like hell. I really hope they catch them soon.

During my divorce, I was living back home with mom & pops. I came back from a bowling tournament in Alb. New Mexico while they were down at the river house. Someone had broken in through the garage. The only way I knew (they had covered all their tracks expect for a small window that was pushed out) someone had been there, was the stuff in my closet was not where I left it. Sure enough, my 9mm (registered of course) was gone. Turns out that the kid (17 y/o punk, he was turned in by his girlfriend) took 3 guns, a case of beer, about 8 cheap bottles of booze and my sons Adderall.
He could have cleaned the house out, but that is all he took. It is scary to know someone you don't know has been in your house though.

Hope you get some of your things back.

Went home for lunch today and noticed a strange truck in my drive. I went storming in the house and saw someone out back. I ran out cursing and It was a 80 year old handyman that the landlord sent over to fix some gutters. I am now paranoid and feel very territorial.
Damn these crooks - taking me out of my A game.

I'm really sorry - that is some scary shit. I'm glad your dog is ok too, that is my main paranoia of someone breaking in, that they'll hurt one of my dogs. I second checking flea markets/craigslist/ebay - they gotta sell that shit somewhere!

Awful news Bob.

I hope the police are successful in recovering your possessions.

Sucks to hear.

My house was burglarized years back....the worst part (aside from the feeling of being violated) was the months of credit card issues my parents had deal with.

On a positive note, if the stolen shotgun is used to kill a family, that may lead to the apprehension of the person who broke into your house.

We can only hope.

Yeah it took a while before I could sleep soundly again. It was partially my fault it happened as I left one on the windows in the dining room open all night and all he did was push in the screen to get in.
