It is a weird and unique day. Most companies begin the fiscal 4th quarter on 9-9. As a result, many promotions end on 9-9 and many products are released on 9-9. In the world of video games, the Sony Playstation and the Sega Dreamcast were released in the US on 9-9. And as Dave pointed out, the Beatles Guitar Hero game comes out today, though I think that has something to do with the whole John Lennon and Yoko Ono "Number 9" thing.
