You don't like it? Does it make you dizzy?

You're going backwards, not around in circles.

Get a hold of yourself!!

The backwards seats on trains have never bothered me, but it does feel kind of weird when you get those backwards seats in the front row on a Southwest Airlines flight.

Some say that backwards facing seats lessen the incidence of catastrophic injury to the aorta in plane crashes.

When I'm in a backward seat, I view those that face me as my followers. Puny, tiny subjects... To be mocked.

I'd like to see train cars built with one row of backward facing seats in the rear of the car. I'd like to have psychological studies done of the people who choose to sit in those seats.

I always stand with my back to the door. Ready to bolt when the doors open to flee the crowd. If I was seated, I would prefer to sit with my back facing the direction of foreward motion, to lessen damage to me in the even of a collision. If you face the front of the train and it suddenly stops, your face will smash into whatever is in front of you. If I sit, I sit so no one can face me.

The majority of our trains have the seats along the walls. So most of the time I'm riding sideways.

I brought this up because I was on a train, riding backwards, and two women settled in front of me while the train had been moving. After shelving their bags and sitting down with some small talk, one said to the other: "Oh wait, you don't like riding backwards", and the other one said, "Oh, that's right.. I get dizzy."

I was wondering if she even would have noticed if he friend hadn't said anything.

It's not like she polished off a six pack on the LIRR or anything.

I could be talked into that.

But does it really make you ill, or do you think it makes you ill? Could you take it if you forced yourself to try it?

I never wanted to push it that far but when I "feel sick", throwing up is not that far off. Same thing with reading in a car, I just can't do it. I've tried. I start feeling sick to my stomach and feel very hot and get the sweats and once that happens I know I will puke. I just know my body.

I have to admit, I've been that woman who had to be reminded. :flush:

I have to agree with Aggie. I don't think it's ever gotten me to the point of vomitting, but I definitely prefer not to have to ride backwards if I can help it. But I also hate facing the wall in restaurants etc, and almost always consciously choose a seat facing the entrance.

It's bad enough sitting next to strangers. I don't want to have to face them as well.

"In the event of a crash landing, stretch out and make yourself comfortable. Because you're going to die anyway."

Seriously... Even in a rough landing, that would normally result in no deaths, how the hell would people brace themselves properly, while flying sideways?

I'll flip a seat just to get the backwards ride.

Also - is it really a train when it's the subway? I know some of you are talking subway here.

I think it can work and they would add seat belts and all... but it still is pretty uncomfortable.

I think they couldn't sell these for anything but 1h commuter flights, since people are uses to sitting like this on the subway anyway
