I FUCKING hate them.

I have had an ongoing problem with my roadrunner internet locking up. It will stall and lose connectivity for up to 2 minutes.

The problem is intermittent, and random, usually during the hours of 6am to 12mid. Sometimes it does not happen, and sometimes it happens allot.

So after having a so-called tech come out twice telling me there is not a problem, I have concluded that it is most likely a usage or traffic issue.

But it makes my uses for the internet unusable, I cant game or stream radio, because when it drops it kicks me from the game server and it drops the stream cause it only tries to reconnect for so long.

Is dsl any better? Is dsl speed based on what your neighbor is doing, like cable is?

DSL in my area is 5mbps down and 786kup. Fios is coming soon, but I will only be here another year so not planning on it.

My cable is suppose to be 10mbps, it usually tests close.

Anyone here using DSL?

try cablevision

they managed to fuck up tv for me

when i first got my box and hdmi hooked up the tv i was happy

2 days later the box keeps trying to reboot itself and cant

(rebooting, for some reason is really noisy too)

i call up for help and they have none

they send a guy over

he looks at my setup and says 'oh, our boxes sometimes crash when hooked up to this brand of tv'

'SAMSUNG'!!!!

im wondering if i have to go back to red yellow and white wires.

he pulls out 5 wires, red white blue green and another red i think

he says that these 5 wires will do the same job as the hdmi cable

and that cablevision is working on getting boxes that work better with samsung tvs

and he was wrong about the quality. it looks like shit compared to hdmi

cable has you by the balls.

so to my dsl question...

1. is 5mbps fast enough to game?

2. is dsl speed based on what your neighbor is doing?

I play WoW with DSL just fine. I mean let's not fool ourselves here, you can't do 2 high usage things at once but yes, you can game just fine on DSL.

OH, and I use the low XM stream as I play WoW all the time too, no problems. You'll have to shut off torrents in the background and shit like that but DSL works fine for me.

He used component cables, and they should look just about the same as HDMI, if not a tiny bit worse. It's probably another issue and the guy was clueless. Cablevision is garbage all around.

And I have the same exact problem earthbrown has except I use Cablevision. I've had the problem for years and it fucks me over constantly. Recently I was trying to get tickets for one of Nine Inch Nails Wave Goodbye shows. These things were selling out in seconds> i was online waiting all ready to go........ and at exactly the moment the tickets go on sale the connection drops for 90 seconds. Can't connect to the ticket site or any other site. I was ready to take my cable modem, drive down to the Optimum Store and smash someone in the head with it.

I cannot wait until FIOS gets around here. I'm gonna wipe my shit all over Cablevision's equipment before I bring it back to them for everything they put me through all these years.

I had DSL for years and it never was a problem. I moved to an apartment and refuse to get a phone line - so i went back to cable internet... I have to reset everything once a day as well because it drops service now.

TWR is a pain in the ass

Just request a service where they send a repairman... your signal is either too high or too low.

I dont call because the guy who set me up gave me cable for free as well - and I use it in the office where my Directv isnt hooked up.

Dsl isn't shared but the throughput blows.

Have you bothered asking your neighbors if they have similar issues with connectivity?

.

they sent one, I was not there and my gf was.

I left a note telling him what it was doing.

He concluded after 5min that it must be my computer and left....HE FAILED TO SEE THE NOTE WHERE IT DOES THIS EVEN IF MY BRAND NEW LAPTOP IS HOOKED DIRECTLY UP TO THE MODEM!!!!

It is my experience that Time Warner has too many customers supported on most networks, and at peak times you have to deal with this bullshit.

Is this thread a total lie? Like you've been a Verizon FIOS customer for awhile and you just wanted to present a parallel argument then act like you're smart?

Socialisem is like roadrunner?

Roadrunner has decided to give everyone equal internet instead of being able to pay for higher data transfers.

It's time for Change.

Question...

I have two Time Warner digital cable boxes in my home. I just swapped one of them for a HD box Saturday cause' I finally got my 1080i flat screen up on my wall and wanted to watch HD tv.

Now... I don't subscribe any pay channels or have any pay packages and the HD box was free. You don't have to pay more for HD programming. However, after hooking up the box I've found out that I have almost all the pay channels HBOs/Showtimes/etc. except the HD Speed channel and Starz and the pay sports channels.

I don't have any of these channels however on my other digital cable box though, just the HD one.

They said nothing about getting these channels with a HD box and I can't find anything about a free weekend or these channels being available with an HD box so... Should I call and ask about this so I can find out why I have them and/or don't get charged for them or should I wait until the bill comes and see what happens? Again these channels are only showing up on the HD box and when I have subscribed to Showtime in the past it was available on both boxes.

One day soon you'll turn on the TV and they'll be gone.

couple of things.
i have an old neighbor that has dsl, and pays next to nothing for it. she really likes it, and i have to admit, has been very reliable for her. she recently had a connectivity problem, turned out to be on verizon's end (after 4 weeks of back and forth)

i have fios. i had comcast. if you swapped the internetz on me and didnt tell me, i couldnt tell the fucking difference.

as for tv, bigger difference. fios is much better for tv. in particular to your connections, its very odd that there is a problem with the boxes talking with samsung tv's. to be honest, i had the components and had the hdmi, and i couldnt tell the difference. i went hdmi for the convienence for just 1 cable. and, i also paid like, 6 bucks for my hdmi. dont fall for that Monster Cable trick.

silly question, but i have to axe it.
did you check the SD channel for hbo/showtime/ etc on that 2nd box ?

I have FIOS, and there is an incompatibility with certain models of Samsung TVs where the screen turns green every 30 seconds or so. After the install when I was having this problem, I called Verizon and they sent someone over. The easy fix was to move to a component connection, which is a drop in quality. They brought some newer HDMI cables that had recently been issued to their techs that have some slightly different specs, and that did the trick and there were no more issues. Different company and different problem, but this may help with your problems.

Yup. The other box, non-HD box, doesn't have the channels.

I'd call and ask just because I'd hate to get hit by a large bill.
