On the 8/31/09 show, Opie mentioned that they are losing Jimmy.

Now, I suspect this to just be him joking but do you think with Jimmy working on Leno, he might leave the o&a show?

Its certainly possible. He obviously wants to act and this could open doors for him.

I heard from someone I know, that they are replacing Jimmy with Patrice O'Neal, they wanted Keith Robinson, but they could not rely on him getting out of bed in the morning.

Apparently in anticipation of Howard's retirement, Mel, wanted an established member of the Opie and Anthony show to be black. This would help the company deflect any criticism they will get for being racists when they take the Sirius-xm spotlight and land back on the radar.

Who's Jimmy?

He's been saying that for years, yet Jimmy keeps coming back.

It might end up being tough to keep Jimmy. He is going to be a correspondent for Leno (already mentioned), and Louie CK just had a show picked up by FX - they are supposed to start with a 13 episode run. I would bet the house that Jimmy will be on that show.

Lots of acting and exposure + Sirius jerking him around = O&A without Jimmy

It will suck IMO, but you can't fault the guy if he decides to move on.

I was gonna post that, but also that Jimmy has always said that he would never leave radio because of the freedom he gets when he is on air. There are a lot less restrictions in radio than there are on tv.

Even if Jimmy were to leave as a full time member of the show, he would assuredly be back in studio whenever his schedule allowed him to.

I'm a big fan of Jimmy's comedy, and find him to be a really funny funny guy, but I've got to say that the last couple of days without him have been refreshingly good. Now I know that they are fresh off vacation, and that's some of it, but there's more to it I think. Maybe it's because O&A aren't stretching to keep up with Jimmy and insert childish one-liners into every conversation. Maybe it's because they can get a bit further along in their discourse without Jimmy inserting childish one-liners here and there.

Now I know that seems to be Jimmy's job there, and he does it very well. I like his comedy and his contributions to the show. However, it seems that it might be much easier to get back to the kind of show lots of us around here have been missing, if we don't have the childishness and uncomfortability that such a third mike seems to bring to the show.

I agree with you I get Jimmy fatigue all the time. Back when they stared on XM he used to make the most obscure jokes and references now he just goes for the cheap jokes. Aids, Robert Reid, Ramone and shit like that. It is refreshing when he is away from O&A for a while and they bring someone else in.

Really? An hour on Ant's jailbait girlfriend yesterday followed by another hour of "Obama is a socialist" rant yesterday? Another 90 minutes today on Bob Kelly's love of fishing? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
