A few weeks ago I was watching my kid run around in the yard barefoot of course and i thought to myself man going barefoot sure is fun and comfortable why not try jogging barefoot.
After my wife calling me a moron I did some research and lo and behold its one of the newest trends out there. Combined with the Vibram Five Fingers "barefoot running shoe" another rising fad (which I now own a pair) I set out to run a couple miles barefoot.
Let me tell ya its a lot of fun, you have to totally change how you land on your foot and your calf will be sore because its working in a different way but i love it. I did a little over 2 miles and when everything clicked properly i was flying along with zero foot pain.
i know that this isn't for everyone but if you do run try running in a field barefoot you might just se some benefits.

Barefoot running through the grass is the best. After my knee surgeries, the only way I can really jog for any period of time is barefoot on the beach.

love being barefoot and I could imagine running on the right surface... but after last weeks' camping carrying my kid barefoot across the campground on shell/ gravel ground to the bathroom and stepping in to some gum (unnoticed until I rinsed my feet) I really have to rethink this.

I saw an interview recently with the guy who wrote
Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen. (http://www.amazon.com/Born-Run-Hidden-Superathletes-Greatest/dp/0307266303)
It was pretty interesting. Some hidden tribe in Mexico that always runs barefoot.

I read that book a couple of weeks ago. Its an excellent read and really helped push me over the edge to run barefoot.

Doesnt that hurt running barefoot. All the pounding on the bottom of your feet. It would kill me. I think you will screw up your feet. Nothing to absorb the shock.
Not for me.

The debate is that our feet are more than capable to absorb the shock.according to some we have atrophied the muscles in our calves and feet by over protecting them. I'm no expert all I know is I'm a big guy and running barefoot hasn't hurt me feeties.

about two months ago i was in some bar talking to this fairly well known pornographer and he wouldnt stop telling me about this book. We discussed running for close to two hours. I think the authors name is Chris McDougal. it was an odd night.
