I prefer Mexican-made mowers.

Home Depot usually keeps them out front.

i dont have a push mower but i'd recommend a honda over a toro just because of durability and longevity. if you go for a riding mower the new john deere line can not be touched, unbelievable machines,i'm gettin a new one next year for the course and cant wait

I am a landscaper (I am not Mexican) and have had best results with (listed best first)
Honda
Toro
Husqvarna
Lawn boy

Look for a good quality engine and my preference is for a rear wheel drive self propelled
If you have hearty grass you will want an engine in the 6hp range.

push mower you say?
http://vantagephotography.net/images/push_mower.jpg

very little maintenance

well I do need a new one myself but money is tight, I need a self propelled one cause my backyard is on somewhat of an hill and it gets really hard to mow if the grass is a bit taller... probably also cause my old mower does not have lots of power to begin with

Being bulletproof is a nice feature but can it cut grass.

hondas are a bit pricey.

im trying to find other brand moweres that are using honda motors but it looks as though most are using B and G

Toro and Honda are my go-to brands (the Honda name commands a premium though.)

Unless you need self-propelled (disabled, lazy, hilly property) I recommend a straight up push mower. It's great exercise, less things to break and a lot easier to maneuver. A lot cheaper too.

mexi,if i was a young guy like you i'd get a reel push mower,no engine, low maintenance and easy to put up to store.

and cheeper

Most of them are using B&S...you may find the occasional brand that uses stuff like Kohler, Kawasaki, Subaru and some no-names.

Check out Lawn Boy (some higher end models) for Honda engines.

Hey when you get it send it to me and I'll turbocharge it for you. I'll even do some internal engine work for you.

yeah if they werent only 40 dollars cheaper than a cheap push mower.

I cant believe how expensive those are for what they do.

yeah i just need a simple push/mulchin(no bag) mower.

im going to have to go out and look at the local menards since they dont have a good website. I checked home depot and didnt see they mexicans out front. that and they didnt have to much of a choice.

wonder were diablo is?

maybe he is to good for push mowers?

yeah i figured it would be way to heavy for me to PUSH the engine. so maybe i can rig something under my jimmy like a big mower deck and use the transfer case as a PTO to turn the blades.

No only if i could weld and machine things id be set.

and if i had the time, materials, and shop...and tools

toro - we got a new one 2 years ago. Our old toro (which was my parent's first) lasted 25 years and started beautifully every spring until this one, but it got left outside all winter :furious: Oh well, at least we have our new one. It's awesome!!

My Murray (homo) push mower just bit the dust. I bought it used and have had it 12 years so it owes me nothing. The deck rusted, I patched it. Rebuilt the carb a few years ago. Good Tecumseh engine. Ran like a champ. Finally, the deck rusted all the way through. Fascinating.

Replaced it with a Honda self-propelled mower - thumb activated drive. Works so well that I propelled it under a tree and bent the valve cover pinning open the intake valve. Popped off the valve cover, peened the cover back out, new gasket, easy fix. I'm wondering about how the belt drive will work out. Also, wood and shit occasionally gets caught in the multitude of blades under this thing. Jury is still out on this.

As for John Deere riding mower, my JD 170 won't die. It's built like a fucking tank. 14 hp Kawasaki engine. Parts fall off occasionally. Just weld them back on or replace them and move on. A few after-market fixes for the ignition system but the thing is a stud.

no joke, i know a dude who used goats to clear his land. he built a sort of movable pen, so they only cleared the areas he wanted them to. worked like a charm.
i was skeptical, but those little fuckers ate everything.
