When Hardin went to prison in 1878, he claimed to have killed 42 men.

He got killed by getting shot in the back of the head while playing dice.

my favorite used to be Jesse James, but then my parents invited over a guy who's dad was killed by Jesse during a train robbery, and i saw the error in my ways.

I had that Time-Life series of books when I was growing up. I LOVED them! One of my brothers still has them.

Yeah, but then you got to meet Joe Namath and that was pretty cool.

Khan and Captain Kirk in an Old West alternate reality!

hey now, Karl May was a very respected writer and even accepted by the Communists. His wild west stories were all fantasies as he had never been to the Wild West.

I know it's Wiki, but interesting none the less (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_May)

Adolf Hitler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler) was also an admirer, who noted that the novels "overwhelmed" him as a boy

The new Eastern Germany (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_May#cite_note-4) was less favouring of his work, and officially considered him a "chauvinist" - though this could not break his popularity, and eventually, even the communist state allowed free publication of his books and created its own Karl May museum

I have been to the museum and to this day they reenact scenes from his books at open air theaters in the area

As a kid my sister and I had an unhealthy obsession with Old Shatterhand and Winnetou. It was one of the few movies we could see in the theater in town and we would spend our summer breaks watching as many as we could.

I was just at both of Billy The Kid's tombstones out yesterday. He was a NY mick who went out west & died a legend at age 21. He was pals with a dude who looked a lot like Bob Dylan, that's pretty awesome.

Thats impressive, as that guy must have been born before 1882 (the year James was killed.)

Unless i'm missing some inside joke, your parents are goddamn liars.
