Read the article on sports illustrated.com about how the QB class of 2004 has much better stats then 1983 (for the 1st 5 years that is). I was a little surprised to say the least.
here's the article....read for yourself. (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/don_banks/08/28/qbs/index.html?eref=sihpT1)
Makes me even more excited to see football for the next 5-10 years.

They're also on better teams, not to take anything away from them. Time will still tell if they are better. The NFC ruled the 80's.

thats actually a very interesting article. its a fun sports argument to have
Obviously Marino and Kelly never won a Super Bowl, and Elway didn't until the final 2 years of his career.
Roethlisberger and Manning have both already won (Big Ben twice) so in terms of "success" they've eclipsed the class of '83.
With a game on the line, though, I don't know if I'd pick any of the current 3 over those guys, particularly Elway.

as an afc fan i hate him for continuing to lose in the super bowl.
it actually wasn't the bills fault, but everyone acts like they were choke artists. they played in a horrid division (jets, pats and colts were all terrible back then) and this led to them gaining home field advantage throughout (except for '92). then, they took advantage of the insanely frigid home-field and were propelled to the super bowl where they lost to better nfc teams in neutral conditions. they were never as good as their record.

There are always shitty teams in every division, so I think that arguement is pretty lame.
If you can't admit that the bills had a great team in the early 90's, then you're just stupid.

ok, be happy they choked then.
seriously, the rest of their division was historically bad and it gave the bills 6-8 super easy wins every year.

Not saying they choked. They lost to better teams. Doesn't mean they still weren't a great team during that stretch.

So three hall of famers and genuine superstars against one superstar (Ben), and two quality starters?

C'mon, gvac, just think of the Giants on their drive to win the the whole deal over the Super Pats!

I'd make an argument for the class of '99. Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Donovan McNabb, Daunte Culpepper and Cade McNown? Talk about a Murderers' Row.

Poor sunsabitches who drafted them.
I hated Marino, Kelly and especially that fucking Elway. However anyone who thinks that the Class of 2004 is already better than 1983, has no concept of tackle football.

Stop it, Ben is not a superstar. He is a product of great D's and good running games. Eli is not great either but he did alot more to win his SB than Ben did to win his two. Ben was TERRIBLE in his first. And the D of Pitt and the shitty D of zona, won the 2nd. Not to mention a ridiculos catch by Holmes.

Actually they made Erock and Sam pretend that they were O and A.
Best part of that bit was a caller.
Caller said "According to your stats you caught 4 balls that year. When can we expect the other three books.?"

G, it's easy to say right now you would take the old school against the current crop. But all three of these QB's have proven to be able to come back late in the game to help the team win, none more so then Eli. I don't think he has earned even a consideration into the hall at this point BUT he did win a super bowl 3 (I think it was 3) years ahead of his older brother (who is most likely Canton bound) and he has several come-from-behind wins under his belt over the last 2 years that were worth seeing.
The only way we can compare the two overall is when all of their careers come to an end and we can see how they match up. But as far as the 1st 5 years are concerend, class of 04 wins out.

Eli is Jeckyl and Hyde. He could be very good or very bad. Don't you see when he throws those ducks in the air and has that befuddled look like he doesn't know whats going on? Rothsburger and Eli play on teams where they have an excellent defense and rushing attack. I will take Marino, Kelly and Elway over those young whippersnappers anyday.

You put Marino, Kelly or Elway on those teams nowadays......Forget about it,
Marino carried the hell outa Miami for many years,
Kelly broke the legs of DB's who got interceptions
and Elway finally won when he got a line
And frankly all three have arms and would make throws (and complete them) that would get most of these guys benched

well Marino had two Mark's to throw to...Duper and Clayton. Both outstanding receivers.
Jim Kelly had Thurman Thomas in his backfield (a VERY dangerous back) as well as Andre Reed and James Lofton as his wideouts.
And it took Elway to get the wr Rod Smith, and Ed McCaffrey (who had a great pair of hands...Giants should have never let him go) as well as TE Shannon Sharpe AND with Terrell Davis to open up the field with his rushing? Hell...THAT was a good team. So all the QB's had some great talent to work with, they all didn't finally win just on their own.

My absolute favorite moment of that clip is in one of the early picks, when Rozelle says "Fullback..." and you can audibly hear someone say "Oh no!"
Yeah, there's a Jets fan who understands his team right there.:lol::lol:
