I know it just happened but its obvious to me that the unassisted triple play by Bruntlett was the greatest play ever.

It's almost certainly the greatest play in the history of the ninth inning of that particular game.

It's no tuba player getting smashed, but it's still great nonetheless.

Here's the list of unassisted triple plays in MLB history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unassisted_triple_play#MLB_unassisted_triple_plays
It's kind of a list of no-names, actually. And that's why though this might be one of the coolest plays in a while, I'm not sure I'd call it one of the greatest. Because, as it appears, anyone can do it -- you just gotta be in the right place as the ball is hit in the right way, with the other team being caught off guard.

I was at the game in 94 when John Valentin did it for the Sox. Pretty much the same as today's, just in the 6th.
It was also A-Rods first major league game. Booooo!

Hell, it's not even the best play of this year.
Jacoby straight stealing home off of Pettite was much cooler.

Dont forget, Werth did it too.
That play got Eric Bruntletts jersey in the Hall of Fame. That alone made it a VERY cool play.

If the Chicago White Sox had done it, I'd have said yes. But since the Phillies did it... it is not that special.

Couple it with the fact that he booted the previous 2 balls to make it possible He should be embarrased. Plus the final out wasnt very telegenic. Hes running around the field like a little leaguer with his glove out in front of himchasing him out of the baseline.
for those reasons its not the greatest Very cool not the greatest

It was one of the most incredible sequence of events I've ever seen on a baseball field, however that doesn't make it the greatest play.

Doesn't even come close to the time Bugs Bunny struck out three of the Gashouse Gorillas on a single pitched ball.

Id say cool. I think walk off home runs are probably the greatest. As a Phillies fan you have no idea how much it pains me to say that.
Although the play in the World Series last year where Utley faked the throw to first and instead threw the tying run out at home....thats really up there.
