I was at a ballgame the other day and YMCA came on by The Village People. This song was once a staple at every sporting event, wedding, and middle school dance. I realized that this was my first time hearing this song at a sporting event after going to dozens of games this summer, and no one was getting into it. A few old ladies stood up and did it, but absolutely no children were doing it. I think people are legitimately sick of the song and the accompanying dance, whether done seriously or ironically, and want to move on.
So I ask you, when was the "peak" of the YMCA beyond any initial success it had, and is there any song/dance that could replace it?

I'm sure it's still alive and well at United Skates of America.

The Japanese version of the song is still performed at every Nippon Ham Fighters home game in Japan. It is a tradition that everyone there really gets into.
